YouTube: A Model Recommends

Standard

ruth-crilly-10Ruth Crilly, known as A Model Recommends on YouTube, is a blogger, YouTube personality and model. As a professional model, she knows about products for face, body and hair and through YouTube, she aims to recommend products and pass on her knowledge.

Ruth posts challenges, recommendations, reviews, follow-me-around vlogs, and sit down vlogs, TAGS, favourites and haul videos.

I enjoy her videos so much and I think her channel is down-to-earth and classy and is a perfect insight into the modelling industry as well as ordinary make-up guru life. Here are some examples of Ruth’s videos:

P.S. I would like to apologise for missing Wednesday’s post without a warning beforehand. Without making too much of an excuse I spent Wednesday frantically finishing my coursework for the following morning’s deadline. Thank you for your patience.

TV: Top 5 Favourites

Standard

This week I don’t just want to rave about one TV show, so here are my top 5 favourites of right now:

1. NCIS

My entire household loves NCIS, that’s me, my parents and my granddad, and a lot of my friends also watch NCIS avidly. ncis-cast-featuredWe’ve been watching odd episodes here and there on several TV channels  and now my Dad has recently purchased Seasons 1 – 8 on DVD so that we can finally watch them in order. I think one reason why the show is so good is because of its characters; their relationships are what keep the audience interested after all.

2.Death_in_Paradise_series_3___what_did_you_think_ Death in Paradise.

This is a brilliant BBC One show. It’s set on the fictional Caribbean island of Saint-Marie and is currently into its fourth season. The show follows the islands police and homicide detectives who solve various dghmurders. Again, I think the characters are what keep the audience watching.

3. Suits

This show is so flawlessly put together with an amazing cast displayed so stylishly that it’s hard not to be enthralled in it. It is a very popular show but if you are in the minority and don’t know what it’s about, it follows corporate lawyer Harvey Specter and his relationship with fraudulent lawyer Mike Ross.

4. Happy Endings.happy-endings-abc

I feel like this show has been underrated and thus only spanned three seasons from 2011 until 2013. It is staged alike popular shows such as Friends, and How I Met Your Mother, with a cast of six friends following their various relationships and comic problems. I enjoy thisBuffy-the-Vampire-Slayer-buffy-the-vampire-slayer-182338_446_600 show so much and as thus have been trying to buy the seasons on DVD.

5. Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

My final recommendation today is, of course, Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I couldn’t not mention Buffy as it will always be my favourite TV Show. Although it has been little over a decade since Joss Whedon ended the series, it is never too late to start watching it. I remember when I was a lot younger, that I watched Buffy with my Dad but I was too young to fully comprehend what I was actually watching. So, when my Dad bought the series, I started to watch it all in order and fell in love with it. I love the concept and the characters and I just think it’s a seamless mix of horror and comedy with that ninety’s/noughties feel and for me it’s the perfect show.

Film: Kingsman – The Secret Service

Standard

kingsman

So… I’m celebrating my birthday this week, and part of this meant taking my friends to the cinema to see Kingsman. It was the only thing I wanted to watch out of everything being shown right now. I’m glad I made this choice. My friends, even though they didn’t know what to expect, or even what we were going to watch, loved every second of the film too.

First and foremost, the cinematography of this film (talking as a Media Studies student) is breathtaking. I had chills from the effects and the impressive quality of the film. It was absolutely flawless and even though I’m not even 20 yet, I still can’t get over the ever-improving quality of these new films.

Now, I’ll stop acting old and talk more about the film itself. The imdb  summary reads as follows:  ‘Based upon the acclaimed comic book and directed by Matthew Vaughn, Kingsman: The Secret Service tells the story of a super-secret spy organization that recruits an unrefined but promising street kid into the agency’s ultra-competitive training program just as a global threat emerges from a twisted tech genius’. These agents, or spies, are the new Knights of England.

The cast are phenomenal. There’s the brilliant Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Mark Strong and Jack Davenport with Mark Hamill and Samuel L. Jackson. All of them are fantastic actors but then there’s Taron Egerton, an up-and-coming new actor. Kingsman is his first film and he has the starrob_f4c123_kingsman-the-secret-serviceing role, rightly so, because he is ultra-talented and, as my friends will be keen to remind everyone, really good looking. He is definitely one to watch out for in the future.

The film also has a great soundtrack which at times provides much needed comic relief at moments of tension.

I absolutely loved Kingsman, which hopefully you’ve realised by now, and I recommend that you see it while it’s still in the cinema. I’m even tempted to go and watch it again before it comes out on DVD. The incredible cast, the soundtrack and the comedy and action iconography with the cinematography makes for the perfect film.

YouTube: SORTED Food

Standard

The_Crew_and_SORTED_productsToday’s recommendation is the SORTED Food YouTube channel. If you want to learn how to cook or relax to the voices of four Englishmen then this is the place to be.

Sorted Food consists of four best friends, Barry, Jamie, Mike and Ben.  The channel began because Ben knew how to cook, the others didn’t, and so Ben set out to teach the others how to cook.  Now the four work together to host and present one of the coolest cooking channels out there.

Not only do they do recipes and other cooking videos, these guys do TAG videos and vlogs with all of their content surrounding food. I genuinely think that this channel is one of the most exciting cooking channels on the internet but if you don’t believe me, go check them out:

TV Show: Still Open All Hours

Standard

asjdfh I’ve recently been watching Still Open All Hours, a BBC programme, which is a sequel series to the 1976 Open All Hours show that lasted for four seasons. Open All Hours, which has been (and still is), repeated endlessly on various channels such as BBC One and Comedy Gold, was a part of my childhood. I absolutely loved watching Ronnie Barker and David Jason together in Arkwright’s shop.

Open All Hours was a sitcom set in a small Grocer’s shop. Albert Arkwright (Ronnie Barker) is the tight owner with a stammer. He is joined by his nephew Granville (David Jason), a young boy caught between his long working hours and his social life. The show follows their management of the shop and their interactions with their customers and neighbours.

Still Open All Hours, the sequel series, commissioned for six special episodes, follows Granville (still David Jason) as the owner of the shop, running it with the help of his son, Leroy (James Baxter). Granville now has the occasional stammer when referring to his uncle and has grown up to live by the standards that Arthur Arkwright himself did, this includes how little money he felt comfortable spending.open-all-hours-1

In addition, some of the neighbours and customers in the new series are the same characters played by the same actors as in the old series adding a real sense of how the community has grown with Arkwright’s shop and giving continuity between the two shows.

I love the show for its standalone qualities but I most enjoy the fact it brings that little gem from the past to those who used to love the show and to an entirely new generation. I think the show is a lovely tribute to the late Ronnie Barker who was and still is loved by many across the nation. I just think the whole concept is extremely heart-warming and I’m sure that David Jason, James Baxter and the entire cast of Still Open All Hours would make Ronnie feel very loved and very proud.

Other: FunkoPop!

Standard

1cbd_funko_pop_ghostbustersThis is a slightly different, and shorter, recommendation today, but I want to talk about FunkoPop! Figures.

Funko is an American company which was founded in 1998 to make pop-culture toys. They make a huge range of varying figures of many different characters from pop-culture over the years such as Ghostbusters, Batman comics, The Walking Dead, Zelda, Ace Ventura, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Chucky, Elvis, 517Lo5E2uGL._SX300_Doctor Who, Back to the Future, Toy Story, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Monsters Inc.… There are so many from all sorts of TV shows, games, films and even some celebrities.

I’ve been interested in these figures for a little while now ever since I’ve seen them featured in many YouTubers’ videos and also at my local HMV store. The reason why I’ve been looking on the internet for them recently is because I’m hoping to finally buy one of these figures for my birthday, as a small treat to myself I suppose.Funko-POP-Disney-Sally-Vinyl-Figure

Some of the ones I want are: Groot (From Guardians of the Galaxy), Robin (Batman and Robin), Bernadette (The Big Bang Theory), Jack Burton (Big Trouble in Little China), Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Pooh (Winnie the Pooh) and Elsa (Frozen). During writing this post, I have even found a range of Johnny Depp characters that I would also like such as Captain Jack (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Edward Scissorhands.

Places where I have found to buy them online are: www.forbiddenplanet.com, www.amazon.co.uk/www.amazon.com and of course, http://funko.com/.

‘Quite frankly, I didn’t become an actor to become a movie star. I have never dreamed about being the most famous person on the planet. I just want to do really good work’.

‘I’ve always believed in people’s capacity for goodness. I still believe that people are good. What I’m not so trusting about anymore is their relationship to their own goodness’.

‘There’s something very addictive about people pleasing. It’s a thought pattern and a habit that feels really, really good until it becomes desperate’.
