Who doesn’t love Disney right? We all love a good Disney Princess too. My favourite is Cinderella and always has been. I absolutely love Cinderella and recently got the Disney cartoon trilogy on DVD as a birthday present from a friend. You can imagine both my surprise and joy when, a few months back, I came out of the theatre at the cinema and saw a poster with a single glass slipper on it and nothing else. I had no idea a new Cinderella film was going to be made let alone how soon it was going to be released. So today, my Dad took me to see the 2015 film and I enjoyed it so much.
The story follows pretty similarly to the cartoon version (this being a live action version) until nearer the end, but even these slight variations have little influence on the narrative. For some, that might signal a lack of imagination from the writers, but I think it’s good to bring back Cinderella in the same way for those of my generation, looking nostalgically to the past, and for a new generation who may not be familiar with the story.
‘A girl named Ella (Cinderella) has the purest heart living in a cruel world filled with evil stepsisters and an evil stepmother out to ruin Ella’s life. Ella comes one with her pure heart when she meets the prince and dances her way to a better life with glass shoes and a little help from her fairy godmother of course.’ (See link).
The film has a fantastic cast including Lily James as the pretty Cinderella, Richard Madden as the handsome Prince, Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother, Cate Blanchett as the Stepmother and Derek Jacobi as the King. Further actors in the film are; Nonso Anozie, Stellan Skarsgard, Sophie McShera, Rob Brydon and Holliday Grainger.
Cinderella 2015 has a great mix of pure entertainment, humour and action with great costumes, soundtrack and actors. It’s emotional at times. I recommend it so much.
