Other: 5 Significant Places (TAG)

Standard

I’m doing ‘The Significant Places Tag’ as created by Actor and YouTuber Jonathan Vickers. To see his video, click here. The reason why I’m doing this tag is 1. It’s a great idea and 2. To enter Jonny’s competition that he mentioned in his latest video (click here).

kkjjI recently moved to Sheffield to study at one of the universities here. I’ve only been here little over a month but the point of the tag is to suggest my most significant places where I live.

Place Number One: The Peace Gardens (Image left)

According to the internet (see my source here) the Peace Gardens ‘are an award-winning public space situated along Pinstone Street’.

When I was first finding my way around Sheffield I found The Peace Gardens and I was captivated by them. It is extremely pretty and calming and something I was not expecting to find in the middle of the city. It’s also situated in front of a beautiful, grand, old building which makes me love it even more.

I just want to visit the gardens whenever I get the chance whether I go to read, go for a walk, go to have a picnic, anything and I especially can’t wait to see it during the summer.

Place Number Two: The City Centre (Image right)sdsdf

Every city has one but I love Sheffield’s City Centre. Like you’d expect it has loads of shops but it is incredibly pretty. I love pretty buildings (as you may have gathered) and Sheffield has a mixture of old and new buildings, a mix of ancient with modern, and I find this brilliant. It is so beautiful and I love looking around in this area and showing people around who have come to visit me,dgddfgs such as friends and family.

Place Number Three: The Hubs

This building, known as The Hubs, or the Kettles due to its design, is my Student’s Union. Again, the building is really interesting. As you can see from the images (left), it is composed of four ‘kettle’ like structures, each a ‘pod’ inside. On the bottom floor, there’s the bar, the shop/café and the student union’s offices. Upstairs you have the common room, the ‘stage’ and the advice centre. The reason why I like this place is firstly due to its atmosphere. It’s a friendly place to be since you’re surroundedRed_Lion_Sheffield by people like yourself and people who understand the student lifestyle. Additionally, it’s the place where I meet up with my Society, the Harmonies, which I have been really enjoying. It’s therefore the place where I took a leap and tried something new and made some new friends.

Place Number Four: The Red Lion Pub (Image right)

Very simply, this is a nice, quiet local’s pub located in the middle of many of my university buildings. It’s where I met a close friend of mine who I see almost every day now, and it’s the source of good memories during my fresher’s week – where it all started.

Place Number Five: Sheffield Hallam University (Image left)

4186295025The university had to be part of my significant places tag since it’s the reason why I moved to Sheffield. It’s the reason I decided to move out from my parents house and the reason I tore myself from that comfort zone to begin the multitude of challenges that comes with moving to a new city and being a student. I haven’t regretted it yet, so that must be good. I’m also really enjoying my course here at Hallam as a Media Student.

So that’s it and while I don’t know about too much of Sheffield yet, I am really enjoying the atmosphere and the beauty of this city and I can’t wait to embark on the next three years of exploring this place and in studying for my degree, which without the aim of getting, I may have never lived in Sheffield and may have never gotten the chance to explore what this city has to offer.

Hope you enjoyed,

Music: Top 5 James Bond Intros

Standard

Each track is very much of its era, as the films are, which is something I love about James Bond: each Bond era represents its own time from when it was made.

#1 – On her Majesty’s Secret Service (1969) by the John Barry Orchestra

Although the track is only instrumental, there’s just something about it that I enjoy so much. I think it just embodies the character of the film and since On her Majesty’s Secret Service is in my Top 5 Bond films so far, you can tell why I like the track too.

#2 –  The Man With the Golden Gun (1974) by Lulu

I think the lyrics of this song were so cleverly done as they basically give you a summary of the film you’re about to watch, of course, I didn’t know that until after I had watched the film and listened to the track a second time.

#3 – The Living Daylights (1987) by a-ha

I really enjoy a-ha’s music anyway, but I really enjoyed this song, and as explained above, it is very much of its era as are the next two songs.

#4 – Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) by Sheryl Crow

#5 – Die Another Day (2002) by Madonna

When I first listened to this song, I wasn’t much of a fan as it was very different to any other Bond soundtrack before it (and after it) and it was very ‘noughties’. However, the more I have listened to it since then, the more I’ve fallen in love with it.

Pierce PT 1‘I think you make the best with what you’ve got, you know? Sometimes you have very little. And you just always try to rise to higher ground, because you’re going to suffer one way or the other, so you just hope that you have strength and perseverance and good friends and faith, some kind of faith, to endure and move on to greener pastures.’

‘You can get totally messed up trying to please everyone with what you do, but ultimately, you have to please yourself.’

‘James Bond is one of those heroes that all guys feel they could actually be like.’

‘People should be allowed to marry, and gay marriage should be out there. If a man or a woman has a good partner and they love each other with their heart and soul, let them marry. I am very much for gay marriage.’

‘Love means that everything is right with the world. Love and only love. Love means that you are content within your own heart and in the presence of the person that you love, who fills your day and makes you stronger and wiser, and gives you the confidence to go out into the world. Love is just the most beautiful, joyous feeling.’

‘I realise how precious life is, probably because I’ve seen how it can be taken away.’

What I’m: October

Standard

whatimWhat I’m is my recent blog concept which allows me to cover a few of my favourites of the month in one post. This is my What I’m for October…

What I’m readingThe Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire (Book Six) by Cassandra Clare. In August I was in the midst of reading Book Three and I’m still thoroughly enjoying this series. The series is reminiscent of some of my favourite books and interests. It is about a group of young adults in a fantastical world of werewolves, vampires, faeries, warlocks and a race of Shadowhunters: descended from Angels, as they step forward into a time of war, uncertainty and danger.

What I’m watching – This month I’m all about TV Shows and I’ve been watc282288F800000578-3060785-image-a-48_1430492966005hing Happy Endings Season Three, after successfully finding it on Amazon Instant. I love this show to pieces, despite its only three season airing before it was cancelled, and the characters are so loveable. I’ve also been re-watching Season One of Once Upon A Time, another show I totally adore. In case you’re unfamiliar, this show is all about fairytale characters torn out of their world and thrown into ours by an evil Queen. I totally recommend both shows.

What I’m subscribing to – This month I’ve been enjoying Fleur De Force’s vlog channel, FleurDeVlog, as she has been and will be vlogging every day in October. I’ve also been enjoying Strawburry17 as the channel has been revamped for Halloween with6afe69f6546810140294c658cd969313 a range of new spooky shows.

What I’m listening to – So much! I’ve been listening to loads of music as of late. But I’ve recently gotten back into bands such as Metric and Nirvana. If you’re unfamiliar with either of these artists/bands I recommend checking out Satellite Mind and Help I’m Alive by Metric and Smells Like Teen Spirit and Come As You Are by Nirvana.

What I’m eating – Recently I became a student. Yes, a student. Part of this role entails trying to eat cheaply. I’m also a vegetarian. In all of this, I have been enjoying Cous Cous as a regular part of many of my meals. I have been especially enjoying buying bags of plain Cous Cous which I can add to salad or rice (I hope that isn’t too weird) and I’ve been eating it on its own (okay, that’s weird, I know) with a seasoning of salt and pepper. Delicious.

What I’m quoting – ‘What a treacherous thing it is to believe that a person in more than a person.’ – John Green, from his novel Paper Towns.

Food: Breakfast

Standard

IMG_1598Today is a bit of an odd recommendation, I’ll give you that, but I wanted to recommend my favourite breakfast since I’ve been eating it a lot recently.

Simply the breakfast contains two mini croissants, an apple and a nice (somewhat healthy drink) and sometimes a cute mini yogurt too.

To start with I put the mini croissants on top of a toaster (since they won’t fit in the toaster) to heat up. Be careful while doing this since the croissants can easily burn (and subsequently set a smoke alarm off).

While they’re heating up, turning them regularly, I chop the apple up and put it in a cup that acts as a small bowl, and grab a yogurt. I usually have a strawberry yogurt since that’s the flavour I prefer.

Once I’ve done this I will pour a drink. In this photo I had water with ice cubes and sliced lemon but usually I have apple juice or apple and elderflower cordial.

To serve I place the croissants to the side of the cup of apple with the yogurt, in its pot, also to the side, on a plate. I accompany the plate with a fork (for the apple) and a spoon (for the yogurt) to make eating obviously a lot easier.

Mmm, it’s so tasty!

FILM: Top 5 007 Films

Standard

On_Her_Majesty_s_Secret_Service_main-reviewWith the new James Bond film, Spectre, on its way, I wanted to recommend my TOP 5 007 films so far…

#1 – On Her Majesty’s Secret Service

I think it’s a shame that George Lazenby never got a chance to play James Bond further since I really enjoyed his version of the character. This film is a really classy stand-alone film with the well-known villain Blofeld opposite our hero Bond.

#2 – The Living Daylights

The first of Dalton’s two film stint as Bond was a great introduction to his version of the character. In this film Bond works to prevent ‘an evil arms dealer from starting another world war’. We also see a charming and romantic relationship form between Bond and supposed Bond Girl Kara Milovy.

(License to Kill, Dalton’s second bond film, was close to making my top 5 since it had a fantastic story showing Bond try to avenge the injuries his friend, Felix Leiter, received from Sanchez, the villain, and the death of Felix’s new wife.)

It’s also a shame, like Lazenby, that Dalton didn’t have much more time as Bond as I really enjoyed his angsty and emotional Bond.

casino_royale_poster_by_comandercool22-d6aichh#3 – Die Another Day

Genuinely loved the concept of this film, one which I can’t really speak about without ruining part of the plot, but it really is good.

‘James Bond is sent to investigate the connection between a North Korean terrorist and a diamond mogul who is funding the development of an international space weapon’.

#4 – Casino Royale

Marking the beginning of a new era of James Bond, a new reimagining of the series and a new Bond (Daniel Craig), Casino Royale is swarve, classy and full of surprises.

#5 – Skyfall

Action packed and thrilling, Skyfall kept me on the edge of my seat by making me worry about what was going to come next. I really enjoyed the film and its attempt to delve into the pasts of Bond and M. The villain, Silva, was creepy and fun to watch while also being terrifying. I also enjoyed seeing Bond’s vulnerability – something that hasn’t been featured too much before which makes the character seem more human.

So there we are, my top 5, however, being a massive fan of James Bond, of course I do love all the other films too and would truly recommend a good marathon before Spectre comes out on the 26th of October.

YouTube: Tom&Gi’s Announcement Videos

Standard

Tom-FletcherTom Fletcher, from bands McFly and McBusted, and Giovanna Fletcher, known for being the author of Billy and Me and Dream a little Dream, are formally known as the couple Tom and Gi.

Today I’m sort of recommending their YouTube channels (again… see here for the last post about their channels) by showing you some of their announcement videos and collaborations as posted on Tom’s channel.

I wanted to write a post showing these lovely videos because they’re perfect and really show off their amazingly cute family that they create together. Additionally, this was triggered by their newest announcement video ‘Player 2’, posted last month, which announces that their beautiful son Buzz was going to be joined by a little brother or sister.

Hope you enjoyed!
