Music: Bryan Adams

Standard

ba4 Bryan Adams is a Canadian musician and singer who has been ‘one of the most successful figures of the world of rock music during the last three decades’. He is known for his husky voice and amazing guitar skills. Bryan-Adams-1You may well know him already but since I am a huge fan of this man I thought he was worth recommending. Additionally, my Mum is an even bigger fan of him and so is Tom Fletcher from McFly/McBusted (who I also love).

Last November, I saw Bryan Adams live with my Mum and it was genuinely amazing. He has so much energy and he really is a talented singer and guitarist. His music sounded exactly the same, if not better; live even after he had been singing non-stop for over half an hour. That’s another thing, he didn’t take any breaks for the entirety of the show and there were no support bands. When we paid for a ticket to see him, we literally paid to see him. It was incredible.

If you are part of the minority who have never heard of Bryan Adams, then you should check out the following videos:

Music: Caro Emerald

Standard

Caro_Emerald_38286Recently brought to my attention by a friend, Caro Emerald is a Dutch pop and jazz singer. Her music and her style is very 50s and 60s in its approach. I really enjoy her music and I think this is because it resembles music from the 50s while including elements of a more modern style. In addition, the lyrics to her music, which you may expect to also resemble the 50s, are very modern and praise the independent women and are very feminist. The messages they promote I think are so important.

This is the ‘about’ summary from her YouTube Channel: ‘Full of songs about dancing, flirting and declarations of independence. Her smouldering vocals update the classic Americano sound with a contemporary sheen and suggestive lyrics over a melting pot of sounds and influences – yet the sound is entirely, inimitably that of an exciting new artist capturing hearts and minds across the continent’.

Please check Caro Emerald’s work out:

Music: Queen+Adam Lambert

Standard

QAL-poster-062114-WinnipegQueen and Adam Lambert. Together. Spectacular.

A couple of weeks ago I recommended the American musician Adam Lambert and I mentioned his performance with Queen on BBC One for New Year’s Eve. I figured the pairing needed a recommendation of their own.

Since the death of Queen’s front-man Freddie Mercury, the band has been performing with various other artists filling the vocalist position but, in my opinion, no person has been more fitting for the role than Adam Lambert. The group as a whole work so well and there are significant similarities between Adam and the great Freddie Mercury, such as their incredible vocal talents and their wardrobe and make-up choices.

Over the past year, Queen and Adam Lambert have been touring around the country and if these concerts have been anything like the one I watched on BBC One, there are literally no words for the incredible pairing the two make. Adam was also praised significantly by the media and fans alike.

Queen is still as amazing as ever, Bryan May still kills it on the guitar and Roger Meddows Taylor still brings it on the drums. The relationship between the two of them and Adam is so heart-warming to watch.

Everything just seems to fit to create an amazing show. Here are some clips from the concert:

Music: Adam Lambert

Standard

adam-lambert-071112- (16)My newest music obsession is Adam Lambert. I’m not entirely sure how I came to know about him, but for a very long time I have been listening to odd songs of his and loving them.

Adam Lambert is an american singer who rose to fame after becoming a runner-up in the 2009 series of American Idol. Since then he has been growing in popularity, not least of which was helped by his performances with Queen, as elaborated on below.

I received Adam’s album Trespassing for Christmas after it being on my wishlist for the last couple of years since it’s realise in 2012. I have been listening to it non-stop. But not only this… my recent obsession started after watching a certain concert of his on BBC One on New Year’s Eve. In this concert, Adam adam_lambert_publicity_2012_pwas performing as the front-man for Queen.

Adam’s performance in this concert was amazing. The group as a whole worked so well and there are significant similarities between Adam and the greatly-missed, deceased, former front-man Freddie Mercury, one of which is their incredible vocal talents. Adam wowed the British public and the media, following his performances, were singing his praises. Over the past year, Queen and Adam Lambert have been touring around the country and are performing more shows at the end of January.

I think it’s time for me to provide you with some evidence so here are some videos with his music:

Ps. I won’t be posting for the next two weeks as I will be concentrating on coursework and exams. I apologise for the disruption and I’ll see you on the 26th of January!

Music: McBusted (McFly+Busted)

Standard

Today I’m recommending my absolute favourite band McBusted. You may not have McBusted_Albumheard of them as they are a British band who mostly tour around England, Scotland and Ireland. They have been a band for a little over a year and have a MASSIVE following since they are a combination of two former bands, McFly and Busted.

MAIN-McBustedBusted broke up around 10 years ago after being one of the most popular bands in both England and America at the time. They managed to realise two albums and consisted of Matt Willis, James Bourne and Charlie Simpson. The band broke up when Charlie realised he wasn’t enjoying being in the band and he decided to pursue his career in a different band, Fightstar. Charlie now works on his solo career and so has decided not to be a part of McBusted.

Having always worked closely with Busted, and its members, McFly are similar in their approach and style of music. They have been a band for little over 10 years, they haven’t ended or broken up, they have only put their music on hold while McBusted is doing it’s thing since this opportunity came about rather suddenly and they couldn’t miss it. They McBusted-supporting-One-Directionwere my favourite band prior to McBusted and are made up of Danny Jones, Tom Fletcher (whose YouTube channel I recommended last week), Dougie Poynter and Harry Judd.

When James, Matt, Danny, Tom, Harry and Dougp01lnxv7ie announced that they were forming McBusted they released their first tour fearing that very little would happen and that people wouldn’t want to see them. Instead their shows sold out in the first few hours and all subsequent shows since have sold incredibly fast too. What was thought to be a stand –alone tour has turned into an album and a second tour thus far. So due to the demand and success of the first tour, the boys  have just RB-McBusted_blogreleased their self-titled debut album (on the 1st December 2014) which probably holds some of their best music to date, and have been promoting that this past month. Next they’re going on tour this spring, in March and April, showcasing their new album and some of the McFly and Busted classics.

If you haven’t heard either of the three bands I have mentioned in this blog post, please check them out as they have created some really great music and in addition are some of the most down-to-earth people in this planet. Also, even though Charlie Simpson isn’t a member of McBusted, don’t neglect to take a look at his solo stuff and his Fightstar stuff.

Ps. I must apologise for not posting last Friday (Boxing Day) since I didn’t have anything to post and I sort of ran out of time. Sorry! Hope you had a great Christmas!

With only 10 days until Christmas, I think its right to recommend my favourite Christmas songs. Of course, most, if not all, are very well known and have been playing on the radio for that past two weeks but I couldn’t not post about Christmas music since it’s a huge part of my Christmas festivities. Here are my top 5 songs and their videos (which believe you me were very difficult to pick):

Mistletoe and Wine – Cliff Richard

Last Christmas – Wham

All I want for Christmas is You – Mariah Carey

Do they know it’s Christmas? – Band Aid

I Believe – Robson and Jerome

Merry Christmas!

Music: Chicago

Standard

Today I’m recommending the band Chicago and their greatest hits album. I’ve loved this band for a fair few years; ever since my dad got their album on CD and started playing it in the car. I eventually borrowed his CD, put the songs on my MP3 and listened to them myself. Recently, I borrowed the CD again to put it onto my iTunes and from that onto my iPod. I’ve been listening to the album once again almost non-stop.

Chicago is an American rock band who formed in 1967, unsurprisingly, in Chicago. They are one of the longest-running and most successful rock groups having sold more than 100 million records. Despite being dubbed as a rock band, their music tends to fit into other genres like soft rock, jazz fusion and pop rock.

Examples of their music will be below, since I can’t say much more about them without you hearing their music:
