Book: The Glam Guide by FleurDeForce

Standard

812wXX2k9+LYouTube and the YouTube culture has increased dramatically in the last two years with many popular YouTubers being accepted into mainstream entertainment. With this has come the opportunity for many individuals on the platform to write and publish their own books in conjunction to their channels.

Now being a fan of many YouTubers myself, I have bought and read the books of some of my favourite YouTubers. Today I’m recommending Fleur De Force’s The Glam Guide.

Fleur De Force, who I have recommended on my blog before, is a beauty and lifestyle blogger and YouTuber online. She posts videos on beauty products, tutorials, reviews and fashion on her main channel, daily vlogs on her second channel and recipes and cooking on her food channel which she does with her husband, Mike, in connection to Sainsbury’s.20150406_124010

From this, she decided to write a book with the main purpose to inform and teach people about make-up and her recommended techniques and tips. The Glam Guide goes through beauty, hair, fashion, travel, health and fitness, life, love, YouTube and blogging and is very much the epitome of Fleur and her presence online.

Having an interest in beauty is pretty much necessary as a reason to pick up the book but The Glam Guide offers a lot more than that. It includes first date advice, confidence tips and motiv54db5507ec92dation; it includes recipes for juices and smoothies and a section on dreams and what they mean. All of this was deeply interesting to me and I really enjoyed reading it. Additionally, being a massive fan of Fleur I enjoyed seeing her voice throughout and especially reading the note to her subscribers at the very end of the book.

I saw myself reaching for the book at every opportunity that I could. Part of this was because of Fleur’s voice throughout but also the overall care and attention that this book has been privy to throughout its making is just so evident and it means so much more to read it. I just think it is beautifully laid out and has incredible illustrations.

I hope you check out Fleur and her channels and if The Glam Guide appeals to you, that you check that out too!

Film and TV: New Girl

Standard

NEW-GIRL-POSTER_510I have been watching New Girl at every free moment I can. I watched it when it first aired and now have Season 1 and 2 on DVD. This show has great characters, great scenarios and a great concept. The concept is that one girl lives in a loft with three guys. Hijinks ensue.

The plot is described as follows (from google+): ‘After going through a rough breakup, awkward and upbeat Jess moves in with three single guys. Intelligent and witty Nick is an underachiever who took the bartender off-ramp on his road to success. Schmidt obsesses over his social standing and looks at Jess as a personal project. Winston is a competitive former athlete who, after realizing he will never become a pro, moves into the loft. Together with Jess’ best friend, Cece, they bond to form an unlikely, and dysfunctional, family.’

The show is so loveable because of these four people who live together and because each episode allows us to see their relationships develop and grow both with each other and with outside characters. Part of this comes from excellent actors such as; Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson, Hannah Simone, Lamorne Morris and Damon Wayans Jr.

I am so obsessed, once again, with this show and I’m sad because I’m not watching the show right now!

Film: Enchanted

Standard

ad3a9bb7b384dda3967751bf4de82c6aI’ve recently been writing about Enchanted for my Creative Media work, so I thought if I can write about it for that, I can write about it for my blog too.

Over the summer I bought Enchanted from HMV as I had wanted to watch it for ages and had never got the opportunity (and bonus: it only cost £2.99 because I was buying other things). So, yay. I had bought it… but unfortunately it just sat on my desk while I chose to watch other things and then I went back to school so my time was limited. Over my first week back I started to feel ill and by the Friday I had to take the day off because I wasn’t feeling too good. I took this opportunity to just chill and watch films all day. Enchanted was one of these.

I absolutely love Enchanted. It’s about a beautiful princess, Giselle, and all she wants is to find her prince. But as soon as she finds him, she is banished by the evil queen from her animated land to our crazy reality of modern day New York City. Not only does she not understand the way our world works, she is lost, comically so, taking things very literally and getting upset by the fact she’s been ignored by most of the population of New York. This is until she finds a lawyer called Robert. Her entire world gets thrown around, again, when her view of love begins to change and as the IMDB summary finishes: ‘Giselle begins to fall in love with a charmingly flawed divorce lawyer who has come to her aid – even though she is already promised to a perfect fairy tale prince back home – she has to wonder: Can a storybook view of romance survive in the real world?’

The concept is very clever with a Disney Princess character falling into a world like ours and seeing how it all unfolds. I think this film is brilliant. It is the perfect family film and has such a feel good ending which, I’m sure by now, you all know I love.

This film also has a wonderful cast: Amy Adams as Giselle, Patrick Dempsey as Robert, James Marsden as Edward (Giselle’s prince), Timothy Spall as Nathaniel, Idina Menzel as Nancy and Susan Sarandon as the evil Queen, Narissa. In addition, Julie Andrews is The Narrator in a voice only part.

If you want something light and lovely to watch, I recommend Enchanted!

Film and TV: NCIS

Standard

I have a confession. I’ve recently gotten into another TV show and gotten completely obsessed. NCIS is that TV show…

My entire household love NCIS so much. I watch it with my parents on the many channels that are showing the repeats from the last ten seasons. My Grandad also loves it just as much. It’s just so damn good! First and foremost, the characters are brilliant, that’s what keeps us all engaged and it’s why my parents can watch the same episode over and over again (something that, believe me, is very rare for those two). The team has changed over the years but the dynamic has always been similar and has always had something that keeps us all hooked, ncis-7993-1920x1200perhaps it’s because we like the character development and the interactions between and around our favourite characters.

Another thing that has made this show continue so well is that it must have amazing writers. I honestly believe the people who write NCIS are geniuses. They’ve managed to keep a show about the Navy and about murders with the same handful of characters so interesting. There must be over 200 episodes but thus far I have found all the ones I have watched completely different and engaging.

As I usually do, I’m going to enter a synopsis from IMDB: ‘Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs is the leader of a team of special agents belonging to the NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) Major Case Response Team. Gibbs, a former Marine, is a tough investigator and a highly skilled interrogator who relies on his gut instinct as much as evidence. Gibbs’ second in command is Senior Field Agent Tony DiNozzo, a womanizing, movie-quoting former Baltimore Homicide Detective, who despite being the class clown always gets the job done. The team also consists of probationary field agent Ziva David, a former Mossad officer who is a skilled fighter, as well as Junior Field Agent Timothy McGee, a computer-savvy agent often mocked by DiNozzo. Assisting them are Abby Sciuto, the energetic-but-Goth lab tech who is like a daughter to Gibbs, and Dr. Donald Mallard, nicknamed Ducky, the eccentric medical examiner full of unusual stories. This team of elite agents, based in Washington, D.C., solve criminal cases involving Marine and Navy personnel’. neue-episoden-von-navy-30408_big

I just couldn’t recommend this programme enough, so please check it out if you haven’t already because it is genuinely so well written and has a handful of truly amazing actors; Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, David McCallum, Sean Murray, Cote de Pablo, Brian Dietzen, Rocky Carroll, Lauren Holly and Sasha Alexander are a few examples.

Ps. NCIS Los Angeles also looks brilliant and has some really good actors.
