YouTube: Carrie, Tom and Gi Fletcher

Standard

tomToday, I’m recommending three youtube channels at once. ‘Why?’ you ask… because these three channels are very similar and because the three people are related and between them conduct the series ‘Dear Tom, Dear Gi, Dear Carrie’.

Tom Fletcher is an English musician from the popular bands, and my favourite bands, McFly and McBusted. His sister is Carrie Hope Fletcher and carrieshe became a fairly popular YouTuber and so, following in her footsteps, Tom started to update his YouTube channel regularly. Soon to join the YouTube bandwagon was Giovanna Fletcher, a published author, Tom’s wife and Carrie’s sister-in-law.

The three of them, in their ‘Dear…’ series, each post a video once a week updating each other on the events of their lives in the past week or two while asking questions to the other person. Tom usually talks about McBusted and life in a giband, Carrie usually talks about her job and the wonderful opportunities she gets through being both a YouTuber and a cast member of Les Miserables in the West End and Gi usually talks about writing, or being a mother.

Now individually, their channels are brilliant. I genuinely love watching their videos so much. All three of them are so down-to-earth and get to do these amazing things.

Tom Fletcher. Musician. His videos are usually sit-down vlogs but he also has built lego, drawn disney characters, sung covers both with Gi and on his own as well as follow-me-around vlogs on video shoots and days out with his son Buzz. Tom is also known for his viral ‘Wedding Speech’ video.

Carrie Hope Fletcher. Musician. Writer. Actress. Blogger. Vlogger. YouTuber. A very talented young lady, Carrie is not only a very successful YouTuber, she also plays one of the lead roles in Les Miserables as Eponine as her day job. She also is currently touring around the UK on ‘The War of the Worlds’ tour. In 2015, she realises her first book. Her videos include; sit-down vlogs, follow-me-around vlogs, music covers, booktube videos and tag videos.

Lastly, Giovanna Fletcher. Actress. Writer. Gi, like Tom, trained as an actor. Although, she really enjoys acting she found her forte in writing and she now has two novels and a novella to her name.

Check out their channels and enjoy!

Beauty: What’s in my shower?

Standard

DSC07804Today I’m going through the products I have in my shower, since I’m absolutely loving them recently.

First, Shampoo. I’ve been using the Anovia Head On Detangling Shampoo. It’s a wonderful product as it is so easy to lather and then to wash out so that you get the cleanest hair and no horrible residue. It treats the hair as well since it has tea tree oil in the formula. If I’m not using this shampoo I tend to use Head and Shoulders for the same reasons.

Conditioner. I don’t use conditioner often because to be honest, I don’t feel like I need to. When I do use it though, I’ve been using the Wilko’s Fruits Rhubarb and Vanilla conditioner. I love the smell and I love the whole Fruits range which is why I have a lot of it.

Shower Gel. At the moment I’ve been alternating between two Fruits shower gels. The Strawberry and Pomegranate one and the Lemon and Black Pepper one. The scents are so strong but not in an overpowering way. They’re just so delicious. The Fruits range are currently 3 for £3, so they’re a good bargain too.

So far, these tend to be my typical shower products but recently I’ve found or been given some hotel ‘freebies’. First I have two from a London hotel, I think, it doesn’t say on the bottles, and I’ve got a body wash and a shampoo. They’re Refresh products ‘enriched with natural extracts of Aloe Vera’ and I have to say they’re quite good. The next three are from Letoonia Resorts (in Turkey I think) and I was given these by my grandma. I have a shampoo, a shower gel and a hair conditioner. Once again, these work pretty well and I’ve had no complaints from any of my hotel ‘goodies’.

That’s it!

Films: Charlie’s Angels

Charlie’s Angels: Original and Full Throttle

Last night, I watched Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. I planned to watch it for about half an hour and then go to bed, leaving the rest for the following day. But alas, I got so into the film I couldn’t stop it.

charliesangelsdvdcoverDespite the fact that this film is a sequel, it can be watched pretty much as a stand-alone film as long as you understand the nature of Charlie’s Angels and the friendship that the characters have. I, having not entirely realised that the film was a sequel until I had already committed to watching it, watched it out of order. But I have always had knowledge of Charlie’s Angels and although, not being able to recall what happened in the films prior to this re-watching, used to watch them when I was younger.  Fortunately, I have watched the first film since, in order to write a full recommendation.

Actors. The films have an absolutely incredible cast. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, Bernie Mac, Crispin Glover, Bill Murray, Tim Curry, Sam Rockwell, Sean Whalen, Justin Theroux, Shia LaBeouf, Matt LeBlanc, John Cleese and Luke Wilson are but a few.

These films make a very obvious use of sex appeal, so much so the Full Throttle DVD case itself comments on it. This may not be for everyone; after all it wasn’t what attracted me to watching the film but if you overlook that there is so much more to these films to praise them for.

Simply, they are great feel good films; very cheesy but in a way where it uses humour to complement their action and adventure elements. But less simply, Charlie’s Angels promotes strong female characters, as the protagonists are strong female characters; Dylan, Alex and Natalie are the Angels, they need to be strong and skilful physically to win against their opponents but they’re also mentally strong. What’s better is that, in relation to themselves their male opponents are presented as kind of stupid, and their female opponents are extremely intelligent, this applies more so to Full Throttle. This is good because it’s rare that female protagonists are so powerful and even rarer that the females are made to appear more erudite than their male counterparts.  Even now, eleven years since Full Throttle was released, the film industry struggles to fully explore strong female characters. In addition to this, the films promote the importance of friendship and despite parts of the films being, as stated earlier, cheesy, this topic is approached in an inspiring manner by allowing Natalie and Alex’s support of Dylan to be a guiding force in giving Dylan her confidence especially in the second film.

If at first you don’t succeed… do not underestimate the power of Plan B. Throughout Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, different groups of characters, from the Angels to their enemies, refer to their Plan B after their assumed Plan A fell through. I think this has been intentionally overdone to really push the old adage and to show that even for the Angels things don’t necessarily work out first time, but even if the first attempt fails, it’s important that you continue.

The characters of Natalie, Alex and Dylan are so well created too; they complement each other so soundly, being similar enough to hold a good relationship yet being different enough to keep their relationship strong and… choreographically, the fight scenes enhance each characters idiosyncrasies perfectly making these scenes a beauty to behold.

Music in these films is very important in keeping the atmosphere appropriately in line with the story and music is one of the reasons why I think Charlie’s Angels is brilliant. There is just great music all the way through both films. The main soundtrack of Full Throttle is Pink’s Feel Good Time and it fits perfectly. The song itself is brilliant and the video is done so well too. I’ll insert the video here;

And lastly, it wouldn’t be a proper TweetingRawr film recommendation without a comment on make-up and clothes… Rapidly changing throughout the films; the Angel’s makeup and wardrobe is so phenomenally finely done making each of them look so beautiful.

Film: Bridget Jones

Standard

Bridget-Jones-The-Edge-of-Reason-movie-posterBridget Jones and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason

I recently bought Bridget Jones (2001), so I’ve recently watched it again. It’s very unlikely that you haven’t seen the film, but if you haven’t here’s a brief summary from IMDB: ‘Bridget Jones is an average woman struggling against her age, her weight, her job, her lack of a man, and her many imperfections. As a New Year’s Resolution, Bridget decides to take control of her life, starting by keeping a diary in which she will always tell the complete truth. The fireworks begin when her charming though disreputable boss takes an interest in the quirky Miss Jones. Thrown into the mix are Bridget’s band of slightly eccentric friends and a rather disagreeable acquaintance who Bridget cannot seem to stop running into or help finding quietly attractive.’

SPOILER ALERT – I absolutely love this film, for its comedic value, yes, but mostly for the romance. I ship Bridget and Mark so much by the end and I absolutely love the ending. They are perfect for each other and it’s brilliant that he accepts her imperfections, loves her ‘just the way she is’ and even ignores her mean comments in her diary, going so far as to buy her a new one for a fresh start.

Now, I’ve also watched Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004) recently, the sequel, for those who don’t know. This film I love also, but not quite as much. I feel like the ending is more inevitable than in the first film and it is also more all over the place. I still love Bridget and Mark together but I just think that his character could’ve been developed much more than it was. Either way, I love the romance, I love Bridget’s friends and I love Bridget.

These films both contain brilliant stars, many of whom I love so much; Renee Zellweger, Celia Imrie, Jim Broadbent, Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Paul Brooke, Shirley Henderson, and Sally Phillips.

I would recommend both films to the very few of you who haven’t seen these two films.

Film and TV: Doctor Who and Whocon!

Standard

Today I’m recommending two things… Doctor Who and Lincoln Whocon at The Ritz.Whocon Banner

Saturday 23rd August 2014. A very busy day. I attended Lincoln’s (in England) annual Doctor Who Convention and then got treated to Deep Breath, Episode 1 of Series 8 of Doctor Who.

ritzFirstly, Whocon was absolutely fantastic.  It was held at The Ritz Cinema and Theatre which is such a cool (and small) venue. The convention was worth every penny and more; I had a standard ticket which cost me £25 plus a booking fee. This was totally reasonable for everything that was involved and bearing in mind that the Ritz are trying to fundraise to continue refurbishing and repairing the venue and trying to restore it to it’s former glory, it’s very reasonable. So Whocon… From start to finish, I cannot express how brilliant everything was. Everyone from the guests to the Ritz staff were so kind, so nice and so genuine. They invited amazing guests including; Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Simon Fisher – Becker, Peter Roy, Frazer Hines (who actually lives 15 minutes away from me!), Nick Joseph, Nev Fountain, Terry Malloy and Colin Spaull. Part of the festivities was an incredible video with Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann with the event organiser Steve Healey, who also, as far as I know, organised the brilliant opening ceremony that actually made me emotional. Then there was a beautifully organised raffle and auction which were both made amazing from the prizes/items themselves (DW figures, signed photos, board games, DW Guitar signed by all the guests, a replica working light Handles, as a few examples) and Steve’s commentary during this was hilarious. I loved the impromptu joke session too with Steve and Colin Baker, which was amazingly informal and included everyone there! AMAZING. THANK YOU SO MUCH STEVE and the rest of the RITZ team!…. I think it is worth going to the Ritz because they’re doing a lot of hard work restoring a wonderful place and it’s so great to see and to support.

Doctor Who Series 8Now onto the exciting bit… DEEP BREATH has finally hit all of our screens! Don’t worry this will be brief and therefore contain no spoilers… well, not really. New Doctor, good. Scottish sounding Doctor, good. New Theme, good. Clara, good (we all have opinions on Clara’s character but I personally love her), Strax, Jenny and Vastra, good. This episode provided a good backdrop for the rest of the series, this is because it has set up a lot of puzzles and storylines that are to be explored and figured out during Series 8. It also sets up the further characterization of the Doctor and his companions and it definitely leaves us needing more. I can’t say much more before spoiling everything but if you haven’t seen it, WHY NOT? But go on, find the episode, watch it, love it like I did. It’s such a great introduction to the new series.

Beauty: Skinology Cleansers

Standard

SkinologyI want to recommend Skinology Cleansers. This is because I’ve found them to be very helpful in keeping away my breakouts and for generally cleaning my face. The difficulty in recommending things like this is that everyone’s skin is completely different and completely unique so these products may not work for everyone and may even make someone’s acne or spot related issue worse.

What do I use?

  • Skinology Tea Tree Blackhead Cleanser ‘bye-bye blackheads and don’t come back. No one likes you!’
  • Skinology Cleansing Lotion ‘our carefully balanced formula helps you on your way to cleaner, clearer skin.’

I’ve been using these products for a while, but I had a period of bad break outs so I stopped using  most of my skin products. Only recently have I started using these on a regular basis, without any of the other products I had previously, so I know that for me, these work. They help keep spots away and they’ve helped clear up the spots I have had quickly. The Blackhead Cleanser especially helps with dirt and grease. I feel like I have much cleaner and clearer skin.

Hopefully these products will be able to help you too!
