Film: Jurassic World

Standard

jurassic-world-own-raptors-posterThe Jurassic Park trilogy, released and most popular in the 90s and early 2000’s, has recently been joined by a fourth film, a sequel, Jurassic World.

22 years after the original Jurassic Park failed, Jurassic World sees the original idea working rather successfully and encouraging more and more guests at all times. However, the park’s previous popularity has led to the decline in its ‘wow-factor’ as people are getting bored of standard dinosaurs. The owners of Jurassic World look towards years of genetic research to engineer a new breed of dinosaur, mixing dinosaur genes with the genes of all manner of different animals to create a super dinosaur, if you will. As the film gets into motion, what else would happen but the dinosaurs go crazy, escape and threaten the lives of the millions currently on the island and everything goes horribly wrong.

In amidst all of this, we follow Claire, a career driven woman with little time for family, and her nephews Zach and Gray, coming to visit Jurassic World. Then joins Owen Grady, a dinosaur trainer and their best hope of survival.

Starring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, this film has more than dinosaurs to offer. It has an incredible cast including Jake Johnson (New Girl), Vincent D’Onofrio, Judy Greer, Irrfan Khan, Katie McGrath, Ty Simpkins, Nick Robinson, BD Wong and Omar Sy.

Chris Pratt was my reason for watching this film, I’ll be honest with that one. I never really watched the Jurassic Park trilogy properly; I only caught bits while my Dad was watching it. After seeing Chris Pratt in Guardians of the Galaxy, I, like many others, fell in love with him. Not only because of his lookjurassic-world-posterss but also because he happens to be an amazing actor. For me, he was a perfect pick to play Owen Grady and I really enjoy his chemistry with Bryce Dallas Howard too. Their inevitable romance, however expected or perhaps clichéd, was a really great element to the film. Also, I’d like to add, I really enjoyed Jake Johnson’s character and liked what he added to the film.

I really enjoyed the film (as you can tell); I thought the dinosaurs were great, the storyline was amazing and the character development, however similar any of it was to the previous films, was also brilliant to watch.

It’s safe to say that if you’ve enjoyed Jurassic Park or Chris Pratt’s acting in the past, Jurassic World is a perfect film for you. If you haven’t yet seen it, go and check it out!

1cbd_funko_pop_ghostbustersThis is a slightly different, and shorter, recommendation today, but I want to talk about FunkoPop! Figures.

Funko is an American company which was founded in 1998 to make pop-culture toys. They make a huge range of varying figures of many different characters from pop-culture over the years such as Ghostbusters, Batman comics, The Walking Dead, Zelda, Ace Ventura, Game of Thrones, Star Wars, Chucky, Elvis, 517Lo5E2uGL._SX300_Doctor Who, Back to the Future, Toy Story, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Monsters Inc.… There are so many from all sorts of TV shows, games, films and even some celebrities.

I’ve been interested in these figures for a little while now ever since I’ve seen them featured in many YouTubers’ videos and also at my local HMV store. The reason why I’ve been looking on the internet for them recently is because I’m hoping to finally buy one of these figures for my birthday, as a small treat to myself I suppose.Funko-POP-Disney-Sally-Vinyl-Figure

Some of the ones I want are: Groot (From Guardians of the Galaxy), Robin (Batman and Robin), Bernadette (The Big Bang Theory), Jack Burton (Big Trouble in Little China), Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Pooh (Winnie the Pooh) and Elsa (Frozen). During writing this post, I have even found a range of Johnny Depp characters that I would also like such as Captain Jack (Pirates of the Caribbean) and Edward Scissorhands.

Places where I have found to buy them online are: www.forbiddenplanet.com, www.amazon.co.uk/www.amazon.com and of course, http://funko.com/.

Films: Guardians of the Galaxy

Standard

GuardiansI have just got home from watching Guardians of the Galaxy, one film I’m not completely late in seeing, hooray! I enjoyed this film immensely, I can’t even put it into words, I just want to scream.

At the beginning, I was very much confused. I had no idea how this unusual beginning was relevant, but as soon as the film got going I was stuck to the cinema screen. Everything was tied together perfectly, nothing was left out and even the seemingly random jokes were part of a bigger picture.

I absolutely loved the characters. I loved them so much. They were all so different and yet they worked so well together. The character arc of the main protagonist, Peter Quill, was extraordinary. I honestly thought that we learnt so much about him through the simplest things and it was amazing that everything tied into him accepting his past, while it was wonderful that he was also able to laugh at himself in the most serious of situations.

I’m sure everyone has heard about Groot by now. His character conveyed so much despite the fact he only used five different words in the entirety of the film. This isn’t me ‘dissing’ the film either; Groot’s lack of vocabulary was entirely intentional and was very cleverly done to provide comic relief.

Guardians of the Galaxy had everything; action, adventure, fantasy, sci-fi, comedy and a little bit of romance.

And finally, the actors! I know I seem to say it a lot, but there were so many stars and great actors unexpectantly around every corner. Chris Pratt, who plays Peter Quill, is a relatively unknown actor, or was before this film, and while watching Guardians of the Galaxy, this was my thought process; someone who I don’t know, he’s cool, I think I recognise him and when I came home I looked him up only to find he was in Bride Wars, another favourite of mine, where he worked alongside Anne Hathaway. He did a fantastic job as Peter Quill and I honestly cannot wait to see him in more films. Other amazing actors in Guardians of the Galaxy are; Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Vin Diesel, Bradley Cooper, Karen Gillan, Lee Pace, John C. Reilly, Peter Serafinowicz and Glenn Close, although also as normal, that’s only to name a few.

P.S. If you see this in the cinema, ensure to watch past the credits.
