Books: Most Anticipated Releases 2016

Standard

Today I thought I would write a quick blog post on my most anticipated book releases for the upcoming months. I am a massive book lover and there are few books I cannot wait to have my hands on.

  1. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J.K. Rowling and Jack Thorne.

This is a script book of the newest addition to the Harry Potter series/franchise, a new play that will open at the Palace Theatre London in July 2016. As a Harry Potter fan, it would be a sin not to have this book on my list.

This book is to be released on the 31st of July.jhgfg

  1. The Dark Artifices Book 1 – Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare.

This is the first book in a spin-off trilogy to The Mortal Instruments series. I am a huge fan of The Mortal Instruments books. I have read the six books of the main series, and I was just bought The Infernal Devices trilogy and The Shadowhunter’s Codex for my birthday. I am hoping to read The Bane Chronicles next. Needless to say I can’t wait for even more Mortal Instruments content!

This book is to be released on the 8th of March.

  1. On The Other Side by Carrie Hope Fletcher.

This is probably the most anticipated book on my most anticipated books list. The concept of this book sounds incredible. The Waterstones summary is as follows: Evie Snow is eighty-two when she quietly passes away in her sleep, surrounded by her children and grandchildren. It’s the way most people wish to leave the world but when Evie reaches the door of her own private heaven, she finds that she’s become her twenty-seven-year-old self and the door won’t open.

Evie’s soul must be light enough to pass through so she needs to get rid of whatever is making her soul heavy. For Evie, this means unburdening herself of the three secrets that have weighed her down for over fifty years, so she must find a way to reveal them before it’s too late. As Evie begins the journey of a lifetime, she learns more about life and love than she ever thought possible, and somehow, some way, she may also find her way back to her long lost love.’kjh

I cannot wait to read Carrie’s first fiction book, due out on the 14th July, especially after reading her debut book All I know Now which I thoroughly enjoyed.

  1. The Luxe Life by Fleur DeForce.

I really enjoyed Fleur’s The Glam Guide, which came out last year, and since this book is a follow up to that I cannot wait to read it.

This book is to be released on the 28th July.

  1. Tanya Bakes by Tanya Burr.

Tanya Burr who realised Love, Tanya last year, is releasing a complete baking book due to high demand. Tanya’s channel, known mostly for beauty and make-up, has seen the odd baking video and they are always very popular. I love Tanya’s baking and I can’t wait to buy this baking book and make all the treats inside!

This book is to be released on the 30th June.

‘I don’t want the fear of failure to stop me from doing what I really care about’.

‘I thought, if people are going to write about what I’m wearing, then I would wear young British designers who need the publicity’.

‘My idea of sexy is that less is more. The less you reveal the more people can wonder’.

‘Yes, I will put it out there – I will work for anyone for free if they’re prepared to make their clothing Fair Trade and organic. It’s really hard to get people interested in it’.

‘I don’t have perfect teeth, I’m not stick thin. I want to be the person who feels great in her body and can say that she loves it and doesn’t want to change anything’.

‘If anyone else played Hermione, it would actually kill me’.

‘If we stop defining each other by what we are not, and start defining ourselves by who we are, we can all be a lot freer’.

‘If not me, who? If not now, when?’

‘For the record, feminism by definition is the belief that man and women should have equal rights and opportunities. It is the theory of political, economic and social equality of the sexes’.

‘Both men and women should feel free to be sensitive. Both men and women should feel free to be strong… it is time that we all perceive gender on a spectrum not as two opposing sets of ideals’.

‘Nothing gives me as much pleasure as travelling. I love getting on trains and boats and planes.’

‘And it’s a human need to be told stories. The more we’re governed by idiots and have no control over our destinies, the more we need to tell stories to each other about who we are, why we are, where we come from, and what might be possible.’

‘I love perfumes. Every morning when my girlfriend and I come down to the courtyard in our block of flats we’re assailed by the most delicious scent – jasmine round a doorway. It almost makes me swoon.’

‘If you could build a house on a trampoline, that would suit me fine.’

‘I’ve never been able to plan my life. I just lurch from indecision to indecision.’

‘I think there should be laughs in everything. Sometimes, it’s a slammed door, a pie in the face or just a recognition of our frailties.’

Books: 5 Random Books

Standard

For today’s book recommendation I grabbed five random books from my bookcase…

Johnny Depp BookNumber One

Johnny Depp: A Kind Of Illusion by Denis Meikle.

As you now know, and as I keep reminding you all, I am a massive Johnny Depp fan so it makes sense that I have a biography of the man. I remember buying this a few years ago, perhaps five years ago, from the HMV closest to where I live. There’s little more to say than that the book tells all about Johnny’s life right from the beginning to, well, about seven years ago when Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End was released.

Book of Spells BookNumber Two

The Book of Spells: A Private Prequel by Kate Brian.

‘The Billings School For Girls. Fine Breeding. Perfect Manners. Black Magic…’

This book I bought from my school’s book club magazine, if I remember rightly. Clearly this is a prequel to book series ‘Private’ also written by Kate Brian. I have to admit I haven’t read the series, I don’t even own them, although I want to. Anyway, I have read this without reading the series and I don’t think you need to read the series if you don’t want to. It’s been a long time since I’ve read this book that so many of the details have been lost from my memory and I cannot wait until I read it again. This is because I remember really loving the book, this is because it had so many different aspects to it; friendship, romance, secrets, mystery, magic, and thriller; it definitely keeps you on your toes.

I recommended this book to my friend, and she has a different reading taste than me so I was surprised when she also loved the book.

Number Three

Harry Potter Book Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J. K. Rowling.

Who hasn’t read Harry Potter? Like really? But if you haven’t all I can do is shake my head in disappointment. I’m a massive fan of Harry Potter; books, films and merchandise, the lot. Now if you are completely ignorant of the Harry Potter series, here is a little summary. The books contain all the aspects of a good interesting story, they show the development of Harry, the development of his friendship with Ron and Hermione as well as his friends own personal quirks. As the series evolves there enters more romance, more suspense and more good vs. evil. It is all brilliantly written and the stories continue to be so popular. So if you haven’t read The Philosopher’s Stone or the rest of the series I really recommend it!

Doctor WhoNumber Four

Beautiful Chaos by Gary Russell (Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the BBC’s Doctor Who).

It appears a lot of these books have something to do with something I’m a massive fan of and are obsessed about. This is no different as if you’ve seen my Doctor Who centric Saturday blog two weeks ago you’d probably understand I’m a massive fan of Doctor Who. This book is one of a series of eleven, one book for every Doctor. I, being honest, haven’t read any of these books yet but I know that their writing is going to be good. The stories also have relevance to each Doctor’s eras with the Tenth Doctor, this book, teaming up with his companions Wilfred Mott and Donna to investigate ‘an ancient force from the Dark Times.’

Number Five

The Kite RunnerThe Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.

I had to read this book for my English Literature AS. It was one I dreaded because I felt it was something that I had no interest in but I reluctantly began reading it because I basically had no choice in the matter. Now I would say that you should be about A-Level/ adult age to understand the book and some aspects are not appropriate for younger audiences. I thought the bildungsroman genre of the book was brilliant, you can tell I studied it can’t you? Basically, it shows the redemptive journey of its protagonist; a heart breaking story. An absolutely brilliantly written book, I recommend you to read it.

I feel like my explanation is a little vague so here is the blurb from the book itself: ‘Afghanistan, 1975: Twelve-year-old Amir is desperate to win the local kite-fighting tournament and his loyal friend Hassan promises to help him. But neither of the boys can foresee what will happen to Hassan that afternoon, an event that is to shatter their lives. After the Russians invade and the family is forced to flee to America, Amir realises that one day he must return to Afghanistan under Taliban rule to find the one thing that his new world cannot grant him: redemption.’
