Book: Love, Tanya

Standard

516ogI2SeAL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_YouTube and the YouTube culture has increased dramatically in the last two years with many popular YouTubers being accepted into mainstream entertainment. With this has come the opportunity for many individuals on the platform to write and publish their own books in conjunction to their channels.

Now being a fan of many YouTubers myself, I have bought and read the books of some of my favourite YouTubers. Today I’m recommending Tanya Burr’s Love, Tanya.

Tanya Burr is a beauty and lifestyle blogger and YouTuber online. She also films the occasional vlog and uploads them to her channel. I find that Tanya is very similar to Fleur DeForce (whose book I recommended back in April) and as much their books are very similar, but as a fan of both I thoroughly enjoyed each book and eagerly read one after the other.

Tanya’s book provides a range of content similar to her online work. This includes fashion, beauty, love, friendship, relationships, baking, confidence, happiness and her own life. Much of this content is beauty related but this book is perfect for any fan of Tanya, since it includes autobiographical chapters and advice on anxiety and confidence, which allows Tanya to take her own anxiety as a positive thing to help others in the same position. Even without being a fan of Tanya and her channel, t71Tf3zlVuQLhe book offers top tips on so many different things including relationship tips such as date ideas and wonderful baking recipes.

love tanya 2While reading the book I found that I never wanted to put it down and kept reaching for it at every opportunity. The book is just brilliant; it is aesthetically pleasing with a lovely hardback cover and many of Tanya’s own photos are laced throughout. I also enjoy the professional photoshoot photos at the beginning of each chapter.

Tanya really worked hard on this book and made it for her fans and that is so obvious to see when you’re reading her writing. For me personally, it’s great to see more about the woman on the other side of my computer screen and really get to know her further.

Please go and check out Tanya’s book and channel (click here).

YouTube: A Model Recommends

Standard

ruth-crilly-10Ruth Crilly, known as A Model Recommends on YouTube, is a blogger, YouTube personality and model. As a professional model, she knows about products for face, body and hair and through YouTube, she aims to recommend products and pass on her knowledge.

Ruth posts challenges, recommendations, reviews, follow-me-around vlogs, and sit down vlogs, TAGS, favourites and haul videos.

I enjoy her videos so much and I think her channel is down-to-earth and classy and is a perfect insight into the modelling industry as well as ordinary make-up guru life. Here are some examples of Ruth’s videos:

Christmas: Gift Guide (Female|Stocking Fillers)

Standard

For today’s gift guide I want to show you some potential stocking fillers for under (or just around) £10. This one is going to lean more towards female appropriate gifts but that isn’t to say that you can’t buy a male some of these things. If you want to see my last two gift guides, from Monday and Tuesday, just scroll down on the home page. To find the items I’m recommending, click the orange links that 1will be displayed on certain words. 2

I’m going to start with jewellery. I’ve found some really great jewellery on the Tesco Direct website and this Pink Resin ‘Apple’ Pendant is adorable. It is such a perfect stocking gift for only £4.10.

For girls and women, make-up is usually a staple for the stockings. I have quite a few 3examples to show you: The Barbara Daly Eyeshadow Bon Bons for £3.75 which contains some really nice neutral eyeshadows. Next, Bd Trade Secrets Eyeliner Pencil, an ‘ultra blendable’ eyeliner pencil for only £2.99. If you haven’t got an angled eyeliner brush, you are really missing out and the So Eco Angled Eyeliner Brush seems perfect to fill that gap in your brush collection. My final make-up stocking filler is the Maybelline Colossal Mascara Cat Eyes, a great voluminous mascara for £4.99.4

If giving bath sets and fragrances as a main gift isn’t your thing, perhaps buying your loved ones these stocking fillers will do instead. First I have found two lovely looking sets from The Body Shop: One is the Frosted Cranberry Treat Box (Shower Gel, Body Butter and a Bath Lily) for £7 and the other is the Japanese Cherry Blosom Mini Gift Set (Eau De
Toilette and a Body Lotion) for £8. Moving onto perfume, I’m recommending the Revlon Charlie White Eau de Toilette Spray since I really love the Charlie body sprays. This perfume costs only £5. Another perfume I found is the Accessorize Passion Eau De Toilette for £5.33.

For those of a more accessory-liking attitude,6 there is the Pink Funky 7Floral Headband (£4.95) and Black Knitted Pom Pom Hat (£4.99). Both of these are from Debenhams.

Many women like their candles, perhaps a massive generalisation, but hey, how can you not love this super stylish candle set of Fragranced Votive Candles? They look like great decorations, I bet they smell 8delicious too and they only cost £10.

The last couple of things are a bit more exciting, for me anyway, and I think they’ll be great as unusual stocking fillers. The first is a set of Nail Varnish Shaped Highlighters from IWOOT. Stylish and fun. The last thing I’m going to recommend are these Glass Photo Coasters which come over the £10 price slightly at £11.49.9 ‘These fantastic Glass Photo Coasters will make enjoying a cuppa that little bit more personal. The Glass Photo Coasters are a novel way of displaying your favourite snaps.’

Christmas: Gift Guide (Female|More Expensive)

Standard

Hello Everyone! It is finally December 1st which means it’s time to open our advent calenders and decorate the house. I want this month to be festive on my blog and this is why I’m doing Christmassy themed posts. This week I’ll be posting Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday with the next four days being gift guides for those of you out there who still haven’t got anything (or any ideas) for a loved one, or perhaps you don’t even know what you want yourself and are looking for some inspiration.

Today’s gift guide is going to consist of some more expensive gifts with a female orientation. This doesn’t mean, of course, that some of the gifts can’t be given to men – if it’s something that they will like, then that’s what matters. To see the gift guide for Females but with less expensive gifts visit my blog again on Wednesday. 1To find the items I’m recommending, click the orange links that will be displayed on certain words. Enjoy!

Let’s start with make-up because after all even if the woman isn’t a make-up artist or a YouTube guru, they will still wear make-up of some variety: the make-up palette I have found is the Clarins Enchanted Colour Quartet and Liner Palette for £29 at Tesco Direct. Another example is the Too Faced: Beauty Wishes and Sweet Kisses Christmas Palette for £28.80.2

Next, a skincare item, since everyone of any gender needs to take care of their skin to ensure it remains strong and healthy looking: For this I have found the Winter Lace Aria Clarisonic currently a steep £155 from Space.NK but it is totally worth the money since it ‘cleanses your skin up to six times more effectively with this using patented sonic frequency, the Aria exfoliates while it cleanses, revealing a softer, 3smoother and clearer complexion’.

Every girl needs some perfume, right? How about Chanel Coco Mademoiselle for £75? This gift set includes a 20ml Eau De Parfum purse spray and two 20ml refills. Its fragrance is described as ‘sexy, fresh oriental’.

Christmas is the time when all the bath sets and beauty gifts come out all prettified and beautiful. This year I have found three delicious looking sets from The Body Shop. The first is the Frosted Cranberry Tubes of Treasures costing £15. It contain4s a shower gel, a body polish, a body butter and a Bath Lily. The second is the Strawberry Ultimate Luxuries containing a shower gel, body butter, body polish, body sorbet, beautifying oil and a perfume for £35. The final set is the Shea Ultimate Luxuries and is an alternate theme than the previous set. It contains a shower cream, body scrub, body butter, beautifying oil, perfume and a 5Body Whip… again for £35.

Continuing on this theme, you could always buy that speci6al person an experience… say a spa day for example. The cheapest example I found was on Tesco Direct: Clarice House Superior Pampering Spa Day for 2 for £130. To find out more click the relevant links, for other experiences if a spa day is not for you click here.

Clothes are a classic Christmas gift but it can be terribly difficult to buy something that fits perfectly, that suits the person’s style and is something that they’ll like. Perhaps this Oversized Black Check Square Scarf from ASOS for £18 will do the job since everyone 7needs a scarf in these winter months.

For the more fashionable female, you may consider buying a stylish bag of some sort. I found this really modern and chic ‘Mi Pac‘ backpack from Liberty for £60.

Another popular gift is the candle, especially those Christmas themed ones… my first candle is the Elemis Spa Light Candle8; £25 from Feel Unique. It is described through this short blurb: ‘Infuse and illuminate your home with this iconic Elemis scent of spa. Soothe the mind with beautiful aromatics of vanilla, whilst uplifting with orange and cinnamon spices’. The second ‘candle’ I’m showing you is actually a set from Yankee Candle, available from Amazon for £10.99 (with free delivery),  containing five Christmas scents.

Hopefully, this has given you plenty of inspiration or some sort of starting point if you are still completely unstarted with your Christmas Shopping! Happy December 1st!

Films: Charlie’s Angels

Standard

Charlie’s Angels: Original and Full Throttle

Last night, I watched Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. I planned to watch it for about half an hour and then go to bed, leaving the rest for the following day. But alas, I got so into the film I couldn’t stop it.

charliesangelsdvdcoverDespite the fact that this film is a sequel, it can be watched pretty much as a stand-alone film as long as you understand the nature of Charlie’s Angels and the friendship that the characters have. I, having not entirely realised that the film was a sequel until I had already committed to watching it, watched it out of order. But I have always had knowledge of Charlie’s Angels and although, not being able to recall what happened in the films prior to this re-watching, used to watch them when I was younger.  Fortunately, I have watched the first film since, in order to write a full recommendation.

Actors. The films have an absolutely incredible cast. Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, Bernie Mac, Crispin Glover, Bill Murray, Tim Curry, Sam Rockwell, Sean Whalen, Justin Theroux, Shia LaBeouf, Matt LeBlanc, John Cleese and Luke Wilson are but a few.

These films make a very obvious use of sex appeal, so much so the Full Throttle DVD case itself comments on it. This may not be for everyone; after all it wasn’t what attracted me to watching the film but if you overlook that there is so much more to these films to praise them for.

Simply, they are great feel good films; very cheesy but in a way where it uses humour to complement their action and adventure elements. But less simply, Charlie’s Angels promotes strong female characters, as the protagonists are strong female characters; Dylan, Alex and Natalie are the Angels, they need to be strong and skilful physically to win against their opponents but they’re also mentally strong. What’s better is that, in relation to themselves their male opponents are presented as kind of stupid, and their female opponents are extremely intelligent, this applies more so to Full Throttle. This is good because it’s rare that female protagonists are so powerful and even rarer that the females are made to appear more erudite than their male counterparts.  Even now, eleven years since Full Throttle was released, the film industry struggles to fully explore strong female characters. In addition to this, the films promote the importance of friendship and despite parts of the films being, as stated earlier, cheesy, this topic is approached in an inspiring manner by allowing Natalie and Alex’s support of Dylan to be a guiding force in giving Dylan her confidence especially in the second film.

If at first you don’t succeed… do not underestimate the power of Plan B. Throughout Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, different groups of characters, from the Angels to their enemies, refer to their Plan B after their assumed Plan A fell through. I think this has been intentionally overdone to really push the old adage and to show that even for the Angels things don’t necessarily work out first time, but even if the first attempt fails, it’s important that you continue.

The characters of Natalie, Alex and Dylan are so well created too; they complement each other so soundly, being similar enough to hold a good relationship yet being different enough to keep their relationship strong and… choreographically, the fight scenes enhance each characters idiosyncrasies perfectly making these scenes a beauty to behold.

Music in these films is very important in keeping the atmosphere appropriately in line with the story and music is one of the reasons why I think Charlie’s Angels is brilliant. There is just great music all the way through both films. The main soundtrack of Full Throttle is Pink’s Feel Good Time and it fits perfectly. The song itself is brilliant and the video is done so well too. I’ll insert the video here;

And lastly, it wouldn’t be a proper TweetingRawr film recommendation without a comment on make-up and clothes… Rapidly changing throughout the films; the Angel’s makeup and wardrobe is so phenomenally finely done making each of them look so beautiful.

Film and TV: Doctor Who and Whocon!

Standard

Today I’m recommending two things… Doctor Who and Lincoln Whocon at The Ritz.Whocon Banner

Saturday 23rd August 2014. A very busy day. I attended Lincoln’s (in England) annual Doctor Who Convention and then got treated to Deep Breath, Episode 1 of Series 8 of Doctor Who.

ritzFirstly, Whocon was absolutely fantastic.  It was held at The Ritz Cinema and Theatre which is such a cool (and small) venue. The convention was worth every penny and more; I had a standard ticket which cost me £25 plus a booking fee. This was totally reasonable for everything that was involved and bearing in mind that the Ritz are trying to fundraise to continue refurbishing and repairing the venue and trying to restore it to it’s former glory, it’s very reasonable. So Whocon… From start to finish, I cannot express how brilliant everything was. Everyone from the guests to the Ritz staff were so kind, so nice and so genuine. They invited amazing guests including; Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Simon Fisher – Becker, Peter Roy, Frazer Hines (who actually lives 15 minutes away from me!), Nick Joseph, Nev Fountain, Terry Malloy and Colin Spaull. Part of the festivities was an incredible video with Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann with the event organiser Steve Healey, who also, as far as I know, organised the brilliant opening ceremony that actually made me emotional. Then there was a beautifully organised raffle and auction which were both made amazing from the prizes/items themselves (DW figures, signed photos, board games, DW Guitar signed by all the guests, a replica working light Handles, as a few examples) and Steve’s commentary during this was hilarious. I loved the impromptu joke session too with Steve and Colin Baker, which was amazingly informal and included everyone there! AMAZING. THANK YOU SO MUCH STEVE and the rest of the RITZ team!…. I think it is worth going to the Ritz because they’re doing a lot of hard work restoring a wonderful place and it’s so great to see and to support.

Doctor Who Series 8Now onto the exciting bit… DEEP BREATH has finally hit all of our screens! Don’t worry this will be brief and therefore contain no spoilers… well, not really. New Doctor, good. Scottish sounding Doctor, good. New Theme, good. Clara, good (we all have opinions on Clara’s character but I personally love her), Strax, Jenny and Vastra, good. This episode provided a good backdrop for the rest of the series, this is because it has set up a lot of puzzles and storylines that are to be explored and figured out during Series 8. It also sets up the further characterization of the Doctor and his companions and it definitely leaves us needing more. I can’t say much more before spoiling everything but if you haven’t seen it, WHY NOT? But go on, find the episode, watch it, love it like I did. It’s such a great introduction to the new series.
