‘I’m a person who gets better with practice. Getting older is awesome – because you get more practice.’
‘One thing I love about Christmas music is that it has a tradition of warmth.’
‘I don’t know why femininity should be associated with weakness. Women should be free to express who they are without thinking, ‘I need to act like a man, or I need to tone it down to be successful.’ That’s a very good way to keep women down.’
‘I like old movies, screwball comedies, vintage clothes, and basically I’m an old-fashioned gal.’
‘True love that lasts forever… yes, I do believe in it. My parents have been married for 40 years and my grandparents were married for 70 years. I come from a long line of true loves.’
‘A lot of people work out to be skinny. That’s so boring, and it seems like a depressing goal for a modern woman.’
‘You can’t expect to make no effort. You still have to make the effort and be kind and understanding.’
‘I’m into sincerity in music and sincerity in art. If it doesn’t feel true, I don’t want to do it. Things that are too dramatic scare me. I think that’s why I don’t always fit into the world of performing arts.’
‘If I’m going to be ‘too’ anything, ‘too cute’ is fine. I love puppies. So what? Who hates puppies?’
‘It’s nice that there are movies and songs about romance – it’s what motivates us as human beings. I’m all for being brainwashed by rom-coms.’
‘You don’t have to wear expensive clothes to look good.’
I would like to recommend Shout magazine. This magazine is a teen magazine aimed at 11 – 14 year olds, or so Shout says… I will admit I’m probably too old for the magazine but not that old. I like it for its celebrity news but not necessarily on One Direction or other bands alike, but on its YouTubers such as the weekly section written by Zoella and Sprinkle of Glitter. This week’s issue (as shown in the pictures) even had a poster of Marcus Butler and Joe Sugg as well as a MASSIVE Dan Howell poster. I really enjoy the free gifts too, this week I got a necklace, sweets and hair chalk. I love hair chalk! But that’s for me to talk about another day… Anyway, what I really love about Shout magazine is that it focuses on nothing but positivity, it has several articles every week on how to ‘beat a bad day’ or how to be happy, or something along those lines. I just think it’s a good reminder to be happy as well giving helpful tips to get out of a rut, if your day to day life is getting you down. This is reinforced by their 2014 Project Smile Campaign.
This is what was reported prior to the launch: ‘Shout magazine will launch its ‘Project Smile’ campaign on Wednesday 30th April 2014. The campaign aims to promote happiness amongst Shout readers and will tap into the growing YouTube vlogger-sphere. It will run from April to September 2014.
As part of the campaign, Shout has appointed YouTube vloggers Zoe Sugg (Zoella) and Louise Pentland (SprinkleofGlitter) to be celebrity ambassadors. Popular amongst the teen market, Zoe and Louise have around 5.75 million YouTube subscribers and 2 million Twitter followers between them. They will write a monthly column for the duration of the campaign which will focus on their teen years.
Zoella’s Zoe Sugg said, “It makes me so happy to be involved in Shout’s campaign and to hopefully bring reassurance and happiness to others who may be facing insecurities or problems growing up is so rewarding.” SprinkleofGlitter’s Louise Pentland added, “I’m so excited to be a part of this campaign as Shout was the first magazine I read as a teenager and I love what it gives to young girls.”
I’ve been loving reading Shout this past month. New issues are published every two weeks and are available from most supermarkets and newsagents for £3.99.
Today’s YouTube recommendation is Catrific. Catherine Valdes, more commonly known as Cat or Catrific, is another YouTuber who, with 504,866 subscribers, deserves mores subscribers than she has. Her channel is home to a vast majority of different videos including vlogs, challenges, Q&As and the occasional music video. Catrific has also been making an on-going psychology series based on the psychology of personalities.
Along with her varying videos and her amazing personality, she has also collaborated with a lot of well-known and popular YouTubers who happen to be some of her best friends. These people include Joey Graceffa, FleurDeForce, iJustine, Strawburry17, Shane Dawson, Amazing Phil, DanIsNotOnFire and MissGlamorazzi to name only a few.
Here are a few examples of her videos:
Happy Wednesday everyone! We’re half way through the week!
Today I want to recommend a youtuber who deserves more subscribers than he has. Jimmy0010, or James Hill, has only 78, 725 subscribers on his personal YouTube channel and yet, his humour and creativity lends itself to the masses. He does a range of different videos including Q&As, advice, cooking, skits and vlogs, he does it all… and he isn’t always on his own as he has collaborated with some of the best British Vloggers on YouTube such as the likes of Crabsticks, ItsWayPastMyBedTime, Alex Day and Charlie McDonnell.
On the ‘about’ section of Jimmy’s Youtube Channel, this is his personal blurb: ‘Hi, I’m Jimmy and welcome to my channel Jimmy0010. I’m a YouTuber, presenter and writer, I’ve presented on a few different shows, and at the moment you can catch me on ‘The 4:01 Show’ or the YouTube music series Transmitter. Here on my channel you’ll find videos of me just messing around, answering your questions and sometimes trying to give a bit of advice.’
Here are some examples of his work:
PS. Just a little extra info, Jimmy is the most recent person I’ve subscribed to on YouTube and I literally binge watched tonnes of his videos after I did.
On to Youtubers/Video Wednesday…
I think the Youtube community can be a brilliant resource for good; not only does it refuse to allow people to get bored but it allows people’s creativity to get rewarded and for individual groups and communities to develop safely under mutual interests. It is for this reason; I want to, on Wednesdays share some of my favourite people and their channels on here.
Today’s recommendation is the wonderful Tessa Violet and her channel. Going under the username, Meekakitty, she has been a vlogger, a model and most recently a musician with her debut album now released. Coincidently, it was Tessa’s channel that first got me into the world of Youtube as most of us know it. She was the first vlogger I watched, the first person I made sure to follow and the person who has inspired me in so many different ways.
Here’s a few videos I recommend watching, and I hope you enjoy!
