How to: Make Veggie Stir fry

Standard

1.pngMy go-to meal at the moment is vegetable stir fry with rice noodles; it’s quick, easy, healthy and delicious.

Step 1 – choose your ingredients. In the picture you can see I went for carrots, broccoli, cabbage, spring onions and pepper to go along with my rice noodles.

Step 2 – Prep your veg. Have as much as you like just make sure it is all chopped to your liking.

Step 3 – Heat your frying pan on a medium heat and add some sunflower or corn oil.

2Step 4 – Add your veg in stages. I added broccoli first as it takes the longest to cook through and the cabbage last as it cooks very quickly. Once everything is added keep stirring it all through, add your seasonings (I added salt and pepper to mine).

Make sure to add oil accordingly throughout to make sure you create the steam necessary for stir fry and also to ensure you don’t burn your veg. If you are conscious about the oil making this a less healthy dish you can add water throughout instead. I did a bit of both (oil for taste and water for steam).

Step 5 – Once the veg is cooked through to your liking put the stir fry on a low heat, or even take it off the heat while you attend to the noodles. 3

For the rice noodles I had, I had to cover them in boiling water (from a kettle) for 3 minutes and drain them before adding them to my veg. However, you can buy fresh rice noodles which you can put straight into the frying pan to heat up.

Step 6 – Once the noodles are done, add them to the veg and mix through. Take the pan off the heat (if you haven’t already) and serve.

I prefer drier stir fry but you can add a sauce to if you like and switch out the veg and noodles. I often have stir fry with rice or cous cous.

Enjoy!

Beauty: Zoella’s Let’s Spritz Fragrance

Standard

dsjfhjdI am recommending Zoella’s Let’s Spritz Fragranced Body Mist. Previously I have recommended her Blissful Mistful body mist which you can see here.

I have very much adopted the YouTube culture of this decade, with many YouTubers bringing out books and products. Some of these include beauty products from Zoella, Tanya Burr, Fleur de Force and Ruth Crilly and stationary from Jim Chapman under the name ‘James and Friends’. Zoella’s products are no different and I very much enjoy them.j

One of my best friends has made it a tradition of sorts to buy me Zoella’s fragrances as presents. This Christmas she bought me the Let’s Spritz body mist and I love it. The perfume is sweet but is a little more grown up than Zoella’s last fragrance, not that either are childish in any way.

The size of the perfume is 45ml and genuinely lasts a long time – well worth the money, since… It’s cheap! You can find Zoella’s products at Superdrug. The first fragrance was usually £8 or £9 but this one is almost half the price at £4.80 (source: freeunique).

Book: The Matched Trilogy

Standard

‘Cassia Reyes has always been a believer in The Society. They have the system set up so you don’t even have to make a decision. Your job, your perfect match, everything will be taken care of for you. When she is Matched with her childhood best friend Xander nothing could be more perfect. However, when she goes to view the microcard of information on Xander that the society gives her, it isn’t Xander’s face that originally appears. It’s another boy from her neighbourhood, Ky.

When Cassia starts paying attention to Ky she also starts falling in love with him. How could this be? The Society is supposed to be infallible. However, once she starts to see one flaw, many others become apparent’ (credit: click link) matched-trilogy

I’ve recently finished reading the Matched Trilogy (Matched, Crossed and Reached) by Ally Condie. I had read the first book, Matched, shortly after it first came out and I absolutely loved it but I wasn’t able to continue the trilogy since the other books hadn’t come out. I decided to wait until they were all out to pick up the trilogy again and it has taken me a little while to do so. Despite this, when I finally picked them up I powered through the story and really enjoyed it.

The books are dystopian in genre, which at the time when I read the first book wasn’t so popular or well-known as it has become now, with trilogies such as The Hunger Games. I haven’t read any other dystopian novels yet but I think that the Matched trilogy allows newcomers to the genre to be eased in.

I really enjoyed the characters. This includes Cassia, Xander and Ky. The narrative follows these character’s journeys’ individually and in regards to their relationships within the group.

Condie wrote the books fascinatingly with the first book speaking from Cassia’s perspective, the second book seeing both Cassia’s and Ky’s perspectives and the third book seeing Cassia’s, Ky’s and Xander’s perspectives, which I believe makes for a very interesting read, with many interweaving layers, and stops any boredom that may come from following the one character the entire time. Although I did get confused at several points while switching between narratives, I think this works well and keeps the readers on their toes.

In terms of the trilogy as a whole, I found Matched, the first book, to be quite slow in its initial development and perhaps the first book can only be regarded as the foundation to rest of the story as, in contrast, later on in the trilogy, Reached, is fast paced and has a lot happening.

I recommend this trilogy and I hope that if you pick it up that you enjoy it!

Christmas: Gift Guide (Male|Stocking Fillers)

Standard

For today’s gift guide I want to show you some potential stocking fillers for under £10. This one is going to lean more towards male appropriate gifts but that isn’t to say that you can’t buy a female some of these2 things. To be honest, I pretty much love everything in this blog post for myself and I’m a girl. If you want to see my l1ast three gift guides, from Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, just scroll down on the home page. To find the items I’m recommending, click the orange links that will be displayed on certain words.

Wilko’s have a really great Christmas range this year and so I’m going to be recommending quite a few products from them. Let’s start with the Urban Boom Box Speaker for £10. It works with any smartphone and is shaped like an 80’s boom box, hence the name. In the same ‘Urban’ range is this USB Light for £5 which comes in the shape of a stage light.

For the DIY king, you may 3want to get your male relative or friend the Mr Multi-4 Tool (‘compiled of 1x pliers, wire cutter, serrated blade, handy knife, flat head & cross head screwdriver with LED torch’) for only £3. From the same ‘Classic Gentlemen’ range you could also buy a Mini Pool Table for £5.

For the aspiring writers you may feel like a journal is the best 6stocking filler, I’ve found one, A6 in size, from Debenham’s for £8. Alternatively,  for when they fee5l stuck with writer’s block or just want a good rage you could give them Wreck this Jou7rnal (‘to create is to destroy’) for £6.29 from Waterstones.

For the more fashionable of men, you may want to buy them this edgy Urban Male Black Leather Necklace with Feather Skull Pendants for £6.74 from Tesco Direct.

Next, this item from IWOOT is quite simple but will provide hours of fun. It is Tetris Magnets – perfect for those of us who are easily entertained or for those who want to leave interesting images on their fridge door8s for their house mates. 9

Finally, my last stocking filler is the Lynx Attract Duo Pack since every gift guide needs an example of this years bath/fragrance stuff. The one I found is from Wilko’s for £3.65.

Hopefully, this has helped you if you want something fun and affordable to put into your friends and relatives’ stockings.

Christmas: Gift Guide (Male|More Expensive)

Standard

Today’s gift guide is going to consist of some more expensive gifts with a male orientation. This doesn’t mean, of c1ourse, that some of the gifts can’t be given to women. To see the gift guide for Males but with less expensive gifts visit my blog again on Thursday. To find the items I’m recommending, click the orange links that will be displayed on certain words. Enjoy!

Males are often notoriously hard to buy for because it’s not as simple as buying an eye shadow palette or a necklace. Typically men also buy2 what they want when they want it. But I’m here to offer you a starting point. You can take my ideas for your brother, father, son, nephew, best friend – any male you need to buy a holiday present for but have no idea what. When it comes to males think gaming, gadgets, watches, tablets, grooming and experiences.3

Let’s start with gaming, since all of my male friends right now are raving about all the new consoles and games that have come out recently. I have found three console bundles that may help you if you need inspiration for presents for your male friend 4or relative: First, the Mario Kart Wii U Console Bundle for £235. The second bundle is a PlayStation 4 Grand Theft Auto 5 Bundle for £339. My last bundle is the most exciting in my opinion, and it is the Xbox One Special Edition Sunset Overdrive Bundle for £349. All of these can be found for these prices on the Tesco Direct website.

For a similar price, you could buy your male friend or relative a 16gb, iPad Mini 3 for between £319 and £399. 5

All men need to shave so you could buy this super stylish set, The Modern Gent’s Shaving Kit, from The Body Shop for £25. It contains Macaroot Shaving Cream, Razor Relief and a Shaving Brush. In addition to buying a present, you’ll be 6providing a child with the money to go to class: ‘The Body Shop is teaming up with War Child, the global charity for children affected by war, to grant children the wish of education. Every specially selected gift you buy, no matter how big or small, will enable a child in a country affected by war to attend a class.’ Alternatively, you could buy a fragrance such as the 7MontBlanc Emblem Eau De Toilette, £24.65 for 40ml from Feel Unique.

For fashion, you could buy this Herschel Heritage Backpack in Dusty Blush Colourblock for £55 from ASOS or this super trendy Red Doubled Sided Check Woven Scarf for £14 from TOPMAN.  You could 8even buy your friend or relative a Pebble Steel Smartwatch for £179.95 from Argos, if you wanted to spend that much.

For another gadget idea10, you could buy a 3 in 1 Powerbank, Torch and Handwarmer for £17.99 from IWOOT which is ‘designed to work universally on any phone’.

From Urban Outfitters, I have found the Globe Bantam ST 23 Inch Skateboard for £75 – this is a personal favourite of mine from this gift guide.

Lastly, if you are struggling to find the perfect gift, why not try finding the perfect experience? Tesco Direct offers several, from driving (from £38) to paint balling (£15).

Hopefully, this has helped you if you are still struggling finding something for your male friends and relatives.
