Film: The Imitation Game

Standard

23065_320_470As we returned from seeing Deadpool in cinemas (see previous post), my friends and I, for some reason or another, decided to watch The Imitation Game. This was a film I was desperately waiting to watch and couldn’t wait, but I had no idea what to expect of the film, other than Mr Benedict Cumberbatch’s great acting.

The film is ‘based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing, the film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers at Britain’s top-secret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II.’ (Click here to see source)

This film is so incredible; I honestly believe that everyone should watch it. It’s amazing what Alan Turing did for the world and it’s heart-breaking what he had to go through to achieve it. Not only did he help win the war, he also helped with computing among many other things.

The film brings up issues about autism, homophobia, feminism and more and allows the audience to reflect on them. This is so important.

I must admit, I cried at the end, but the ending makes the film. It really does.

The Imitation Game also had an amazing cast – I know I say that a lot when recommending films but never has it been truer than this movie; Benedict Cumberbatch is joined by Keira Knightly, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Allen Leech, Charles Dance, Matthew Beard, Mark Strong and James Northcote to name a few.

Here’s the trailer to give you a bit more of a feel for the film:

I truly recommend that you watch it, enjoy!

Film: Spectre

Standard

12002410_1134539806560929_7647752797114155043_oFor my blog, October was Bond month in anticipation and excitement for the new film in the franchise, Spectre. As you have probably gathered, I am a massive fan of James Bond, and have been watching the entire franchise start to finish over the summer in preparation. So… on Halloween, I went with my father to the cinema.

The opening scene is fantastic! I loved it so much. I loved James Bond in his outfit and the way the camera followed him throughout the shot and into the action. Without giving too many spoilers these first scenes were very well crafted including all of the shots and stunts… Yes I am a Media Student and yes good cinematography is something that pleases me.

The main characters, pretty much the same as the past three 007 films, are just as endearing as ever and becoming more of a united front and a close family. Additionally, the villain is as intriguing as ever and made the narrative very enjoyable (especially if you’re a fan of the old Bond films). All of these characters, of course, were played by an amazing cast including: Daniel Craig, Christoph Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Ralph Fiennes, Monica Bellucci, Ben Whishaw, Naomie Harris, Dave Bautista, Andrew Scott, Rory Kinnear and many more…

The storyline summary can be seen as follows; ‘A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE’. (Source)

With little more to say than that I really enjoyed this film, I will leave you with the trailer and hope that you go on to watch and enjoy Spectre too.
