YouTube: Cereal Time

Standard

maxresdefaultCereal Time is a week daily breakfast show on YouTube. Starring Jimmy Hill of Jimmy0010  and Charlie McDonnell of Charlieissocoollike  as the hosts, this becomes a very British channel.

Many people have pointed out Cereal Time’s similarity with Good Mythical Morning,  an American YouTube channel with week daily shows and very similar content which has been running for over seven seasons. It is true that the two shows are the British/American counterparts of each other but I think if you enjoy GMM and want something new or a little different to enjoy, Cereal Time is there for you.

I want to recommend this show because I’ve been enjoying it so much. I love the hosts a lot and have been watching their individual content for a while. I’ve even recommended Jimmy before on my blog.

The videos consist of challenges, games and discussions as well as structured sections, a different one each day, which are: Feature Tombola, Answerphone Mondays, Old News Tuesdays, Skype Games and Cereal time University.

So far their videos have included, June Christmas, making each other out of cereal, answering exam questions from British GCSE papers, creating superheroes, whether they would date ‘that dog’ and science experiments.

There’s little more to say, so check out the examples below and go visit Cereal Time.

Film and TV: NCIS

Standard

I have a confession. I’ve recently gotten into another TV show and gotten completely obsessed. NCIS is that TV show…

My entire household love NCIS so much. I watch it with my parents on the many channels that are showing the repeats from the last ten seasons. My Grandad also loves it just as much. It’s just so damn good! First and foremost, the characters are brilliant, that’s what keeps us all engaged and it’s why my parents can watch the same episode over and over again (something that, believe me, is very rare for those two). The team has changed over the years but the dynamic has always been similar and has always had something that keeps us all hooked, ncis-7993-1920x1200perhaps it’s because we like the character development and the interactions between and around our favourite characters.

Another thing that has made this show continue so well is that it must have amazing writers. I honestly believe the people who write NCIS are geniuses. They’ve managed to keep a show about the Navy and about murders with the same handful of characters so interesting. There must be over 200 episodes but thus far I have found all the ones I have watched completely different and engaging.

As I usually do, I’m going to enter a synopsis from IMDB: ‘Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs is the leader of a team of special agents belonging to the NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) Major Case Response Team. Gibbs, a former Marine, is a tough investigator and a highly skilled interrogator who relies on his gut instinct as much as evidence. Gibbs’ second in command is Senior Field Agent Tony DiNozzo, a womanizing, movie-quoting former Baltimore Homicide Detective, who despite being the class clown always gets the job done. The team also consists of probationary field agent Ziva David, a former Mossad officer who is a skilled fighter, as well as Junior Field Agent Timothy McGee, a computer-savvy agent often mocked by DiNozzo. Assisting them are Abby Sciuto, the energetic-but-Goth lab tech who is like a daughter to Gibbs, and Dr. Donald Mallard, nicknamed Ducky, the eccentric medical examiner full of unusual stories. This team of elite agents, based in Washington, D.C., solve criminal cases involving Marine and Navy personnel’. neue-episoden-von-navy-30408_big

I just couldn’t recommend this programme enough, so please check it out if you haven’t already because it is genuinely so well written and has a handful of truly amazing actors; Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, David McCallum, Sean Murray, Cote de Pablo, Brian Dietzen, Rocky Carroll, Lauren Holly and Sasha Alexander are a few examples.

Ps. NCIS Los Angeles also looks brilliant and has some really good actors.

Film and TV: Black Books

Standard

Black BooksToday I want to recommend a TV series. Black Books aired between 2000 and 2004, it starred Dylan Moran (Shaun of the Dead, Comedian), Bill Bailey (Hustle, Doctor Who, Nanny McPhee) and Tamsin Greig (Episodes, Doctor Who, Shaun of the Dead) and lasted three series. Not only did Moran star in it, he created and wrote the show too. I used to watch this programme a few years ago when it was shown on the channel Dave and I recently bought all three series on DVD. Like ‘After You’ve Gone’ that I reviewed perhaps a month ago, it isn’t a serious programme and it provides light entertainment. It’s the type of show where, again like After You’ve Gone, you can get attached to the characters while leaving it on in the background as each new episode is a new story rather than a continuous arc. I tend to watch this programme at night before I go to sleep. It’s just a nice way to end the day.

I found a brief synopsis of the show on the imdb website, it was written by P.H. Moo: ‘Bernard Black runs his own bookshop even though he doesn’t much like people who buy books and hates having customers. Next door to Bernard’s shop is the Nifty Gifty gift shop run by Fran, probably Bernard’s only friend in the world. When Bernard’s accountant goes on the run Bernard employs stress victim, Manny to help in his shop. This leads to a series of surreal adventures around the shop.’

TV Show: After You’ve Gone

After You've Gone

Today I want to recommend a TV series. After You’ve Gone was a BBC Sitcom that aired in 2007 and 2008 in the length of 3 series of 7 – 8 episodes. I loved this series when it was on TV and I was gutted when it got cancelled so I recently bought the DVDs. It’s comic quality paired with great actors; Nicholas Lyndhurst (Only Fools and Horses, Goodnight Sweetheart), Celia Imrie (Bridget Jones Diary, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace), Dani Harmer (Tracy Beaker, Dani’s House), Amanda Abbington (Sherlock, Mr Selfridge) and Ryan Sampson (The Things I haven’t Told You, Doctor Who) to name a few, creates a really simple yet clever show that provides light entertainment. It is the type of show where you can get attached to the characters while leaving it on in the background as each new episode is a new story rather than a continuous arc.
