Film: Antman

Standard

antman-posterI recently went to see Antman at the cinema with a couple of friends. First and foremost, it was a film I wanted to see purely because it’s Marvel and secondly because I absolutely love superhero movies.

I didn’t really know what to expect from the film since many of the newer marvel films, and those to come, are more and more intense and are starting to lead into bigger plotlines; therefore leaving origin stories behind. Antman takes a different course in all of this and we are allowed to see a brand new origin story of a lesser known comic-book character.

Antman is a character that can be easily mocked; named after an Ant, of all creatures, and with the super power of being able to shrink really small is cause for laughter, but I think this very interesting and highly scientific concept is innovative and a nice change of pace while in the middle of all the other larger Marvel films.

Like all films, it seems, Antman has all the regular properties, such as, action, comedy, heartache, crazy cinematics, drama and a romantic interest. While the romance was probably expected, it was a nice addition to an eventual happy ending.

The cast was excellent, Paul Rudd, playing the lead Scott Lang, was fantastic and played the role perfectly. Other members of the cast include; Michael Douglas as Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly as Hope van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, Judy Greer as Maggie Lang, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson and many more.

With the innovation of a new character comes a great example of today’s cinematic age; film quality is rising to new heights. There are fantastic scenes with a shrunken Antman in a world of large furniture and an incredible fight scene which takes place between Antman and a villain of a similar size showing a hefty battle around a children’s train set, and yet, the film doesn’t disguise the hilarity of this with anti-climatic cutaways showing nothing more than a toy train falling off of its tracks. Additionally, the CGI Ants create amazing scenes too, especially when Scott Lang’s right-hand ‘man’ is a flying Ant called Antony.

To give you more info on the film, here is the IMDB synopsis: ‘Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world’.

Finally, as with all Marvel films, there was an after-credits scene. While I said that Antman was taking a different course to the main action within The Avengers, the after-credits scene reveals that this is only short-lived as Antman is tied back into the main plotline with a hint to his role in Civil War.

YouTube: Ingrid Nilsen

Standard

Today I’m recommending Ingrid Nilsen. If you’re eagle eyed or have been paying attention to my blog for long enough, you’ll know that I have actually recommended her YouTube channel, Miss Glamorazzi, before but since then she has updated her second channel and uses that on a regular basis too. Therefore, I’m revisiting my previous recommendation (which you can find here) and adding to it.

Just as a brief explanat71ik6kFvion if you don’t know who Ingrid Nilsen is. She is a beauty guru on YouTube who, on her main channel, posts videos about beauty, make-up and fashion and on her second channel, which I am recommending most today, she posts vlog-style videos.

On her second channel, TheGridMonster, Ingrid tended to post vlogs of all varieties, sometimes sit-down, sometimes follow-me-around daily vlogs, in the past. Not to say that this has stopped but rather the channel has undergone some renovation, let’s say. The channel is now regularly used for the uploads of a weekly series called 5 Minutes For Us. I think it’s such a great series and really talks about issues and topics in a very mature and real way. These videos are just so honest and I love that every episode is different and tackles different types of issues and so forth.

Here are a couple examples:

I want to mention this because I think it’s important: Ingrid stormed the internet with her inspiring coming out video. Not only has Ingrid become one of the first popular female and first Beauty Guru (as far as I know) to come out, she has also provided a video with a strong message, a message that everyone should have their best chance in life and just be them. Be proud to be you. Don’t apologise for being you. It doesn’t matter, like REALLY doesn’t matter, what your sexual orientation is, full stop, but it also doesn’t matter what your orientation is for you to find the video encouraging and for the message to be relevant. To see for yourself, the video is below:

photoToday I’m recommending the amazing Michael Aranda and his two (or three if you want to count his gaming channel) YouTube channels. I have been watching his videos for a few years now and I think Michael is such a kind, down-to-earth man who lives life with such positivity.

On his main channel, Michael posts sit-down topic vlogs, music, everyday vlogs during VEDA (Vlog EveryDay in April/August) and super high-quality projects that he works on. On his vlog channel, Michael posts daily videos in the form of follow-me-around vlogs.

I love his videos so much and I think it’s worth the time to check his work out. Here are some examples to entice you further:

Christmas: Gift Guide (Female|Stocking Fillers)

Standard

For today’s gift guide I want to show you some potential stocking fillers for under (or just around) £10. This one is going to lean more towards female appropriate gifts but that isn’t to say that you can’t buy a male some of these things. If you want to see my last two gift guides, from Monday and Tuesday, just scroll down on the home page. To find the items I’m recommending, click the orange links that 1will be displayed on certain words. 2

I’m going to start with jewellery. I’ve found some really great jewellery on the Tesco Direct website and this Pink Resin ‘Apple’ Pendant is adorable. It is such a perfect stocking gift for only £4.10.

For girls and women, make-up is usually a staple for the stockings. I have quite a few 3examples to show you: The Barbara Daly Eyeshadow Bon Bons for £3.75 which contains some really nice neutral eyeshadows. Next, Bd Trade Secrets Eyeliner Pencil, an ‘ultra blendable’ eyeliner pencil for only £2.99. If you haven’t got an angled eyeliner brush, you are really missing out and the So Eco Angled Eyeliner Brush seems perfect to fill that gap in your brush collection. My final make-up stocking filler is the Maybelline Colossal Mascara Cat Eyes, a great voluminous mascara for £4.99.4

If giving bath sets and fragrances as a main gift isn’t your thing, perhaps buying your loved ones these stocking fillers will do instead. First I have found two lovely looking sets from The Body Shop: One is the Frosted Cranberry Treat Box (Shower Gel, Body Butter and a Bath Lily) for £7 and the other is the Japanese Cherry Blosom Mini Gift Set (Eau De
Toilette and a Body Lotion) for £8. Moving onto perfume, I’m recommending the Revlon Charlie White Eau de Toilette Spray since I really love the Charlie body sprays. This perfume costs only £5. Another perfume I found is the Accessorize Passion Eau De Toilette for £5.33.

For those of a more accessory-liking attitude,6 there is the Pink Funky 7Floral Headband (£4.95) and Black Knitted Pom Pom Hat (£4.99). Both of these are from Debenhams.

Many women like their candles, perhaps a massive generalisation, but hey, how can you not love this super stylish candle set of Fragranced Votive Candles? They look like great decorations, I bet they smell 8delicious too and they only cost £10.

The last couple of things are a bit more exciting, for me anyway, and I think they’ll be great as unusual stocking fillers. The first is a set of Nail Varnish Shaped Highlighters from IWOOT. Stylish and fun. The last thing I’m going to recommend are these Glass Photo Coasters which come over the £10 price slightly at £11.49.9 ‘These fantastic Glass Photo Coasters will make enjoying a cuppa that little bit more personal. The Glass Photo Coasters are a novel way of displaying your favourite snaps.’
